Oscar Nominated Shorts: Animated at the Harvard Exit

The Oscars are next month, which means it's time to watch the nominees for the Animated Shorts once again.  The five nominees are playing at the Harvard Exit at 7:20 on Sunday, which means that we will be meeting around 7 pm in the lobby -- after buying your tickets, of course. :-)  The shorts have a run time of 1 hour and 42 minutes (there is some banter in between the nominees).

From the Landmark website:

Program includes: "Feral" (USA), in which a wild boy, found in the woods and brought back to civilization, tries to adapt to a strange new environment; Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Get a Horse!" (USA), a contemporary homage to the first shorts featuring Mickey Mouse, with all-new, black-and-white, hand-drawn animation; "Mr. Hublot" (Luxembourg/France), about a withdrawn, idiosyncratic character made partially of mechanical parts whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of the dog Robot Pet; "Possessions" (Japan), in which an 18th Century man, lost on a stormy night deep in the mountains, enters a small shrine that suddenly turns into a room in a different world; and "Room on the Broom" (UK), based on the children's picture book by Julia Donaldson, about a kind witch who invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her broom, much to the frustration of her cat.

Here's a link to all the shorts that will be playing:

Afterwards, we will meet back up in the lobby before heading out to a local business for our post-film discussion -- most likely centering around which short we liked the best.

Hope to see you there!

A really strong field of Oscar contenders this year for Best Animated Short, and even some enjoyable ones that were merely "recommended." Thanks for all who came out, especially those who stayed for the discussion afterwards.

As much as I am looking forward to the shorts, I think I may cancel for tonight. I'm concerned about driving. So sorry, Greg.

The roads are clear here on the Hill and all the white stuff is melting pretty fast, but I'm going to have to bail anyway. I need that block of time to get some stuff taken care of.
