Director Bong Joon-ho (The Host) is back, this time with an international cast and a huge budget.
From SIFF's website:
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Snowpiercer takes place in a bleak future where a failed experiment to stop global warming has turned the world into a frozen, uninhabitable wasteland. Humanity's only survivors are left on board a perpetual-motion train built by an eccentric, reclusive billionaire. The upper class live in the forward train cars in luxury, protected by armed soldiers, while those with second-class tickets languish in squalor at the back. But a band of rebels is brewing, and with the help of a wise elder (John Hurt), their leader (Chris Evans) has discovered a secret that could completely shift the balance of power.
We will be going to the 7 pm showing. Please arrive between 6:30 and 6:45, as we will be grabbing seats NO LATER THAN 6:45. There's free parking after 6 pm--just ask at the window when you buy your ticket. Many buses also stop nearby, including the D Line, the 8, and the 32.
Once you have your ticket, please meet with me in the lobby so that I can check you off the RSVP list. After the film is over, we will regroup in the lobby before heading to a local establishment for a post-film discussion.
Snowpiercer is currently scoring an 83 out of 100 on Metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/snowpiercer
And here is a glowing review by Gael Schmidt Cleach: http://acidcinema.wordpress.com/2013/12/19/review-snowpiercer-2013/
I should mention that the film is extremely violent, so if violence bothers you, this film is not for you.
Hope to see you there!
