Easter Egg Hunt on Poo Poo Point

Hello Hikers,

How about a little motivation to get the kids out. Let's have an easter egg hunt on Poo Poo Point. A fairly short trail with a good challenge for the little ones. 2 miles, 1500' elevation gain. We did this last year and it worked out great. See the pictures of last years egg hunt.

Here's the plan:

I'll head up with a setup group and get to Poo Poo Point about a half hour early with Easter candy to hide in one area near the upper launch pad. When the families arrive shortly after and get collected, we'll send the kids on the egg hunt.

Hot coffee, tea, cocoa will be available at the top for those that join me to setup, and for the families that join for the egg hunt.

The planned time for the egg hunt is 12:00pm. Hopefully everyone can make it to the top by then. Starting at 10am I should be able to get to Poo Poo point by 11:00. That should give the setup group a chance to get things setup before the families arrive around 11:30 to 12:00. I'll need some additional hikers that can make the hike in this time frame (10-11) to help me carry some things up and help setup.

For the families and thier children: If you feel that you need more time to get to the top, please start earlier at your own pace. We wouldn't want to exclude anyone from the egg hunt. Or, if you think it will take less time to get the kids to the top, please start at a later time. This will help avoid cogestion and confusion as the setup group is getting things ready.

Itinerary

10:00am - Setup group starts at Chirico trail head
10:30am - Families and kids start at Chirico trail head
11:15am - Setup group arrives at Poo Poo Point
11:45am - Families arrive at Poo Poo point
12:00pm - Egg hunt
12:15pm - Picnic (allocate an hour and a half)
01:45pm - Head back down the trail
02:15pm - Chirico trail head

Trailhead

From I-90 take exit 17 (Front Street) and turn right (south). After 0.6 mile turn left (east) onto East Sunset Way, and in two blocks turn right onto 2nd Avenue SE. In about 0.5 mile park near the high school. The trail begins just south of the school on the switchback of the old railroad grade.

Rain Policy

Unfortunately for this one, if there is rain, the hike and egg hunt will be cancelled. I'll try and make the decision the Thursday evening before the hunt.

We had so much fun last year! I hope you'll do this again. It was great motivation for our 3 year old to hike to the top.

What a glorious day! I opted to get an earlier start and saw many of our little egg hunters on the decend. Happy Easter!

If anyone hiking up is interested in a tandem paragliding flight down I can arrange that since the weather looks good for flying (www.ParaflyParagliding.com). Also, the trailhead described is not the trailhead for the Chirico Trail, but for the High School trailhead which will also get you to the same spot but it is a longer hike. Parking at both trailheads is EXTREMELY limited on a sunny day so you should arrive early and/or carpool from the Issaquah Park & Ride.

Hello hikers. Thanks for joining up for the Easter egg hunt.

If everyone could please do me a favor and update their rsvp message with the number of kids that will be participating in the egg hunt. I am starting to collect the eggs for the hunt and want to make sure that I have enough.

The last couple of years there were several kids on the lookout that were not from the hiking groups and we let them participate also.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
