Seattle Py -- Monthly Meetup

  • October 4, 2011 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We'll meet at the offices of Synapse Product Development to discuss what's new in the world of Python and share stories of our own successes and failures with the language.

Once we run out of interesting Python-related discussion we'll optionally transition to a working meeting for an hour and help each other with our projects.

    The error I got was:
    $ ./wordcount.py --count alice.txt
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "./wordcount.py", line 68, in <module>
    main()
    File "./wordcount.py", line 60, in main
    print_words(filename)
    NameError: global name 'print_words' is not defined

    This code doesn't work because it's part of an exercise. The directions for this exercise are at the top of the file. So open wordcount.py in your favorite text editor (e.g. vim, emacs, notepad, etc.) for explanation.

    A couple notes:
    1) You should probably include a link to where exactly to get wordcount.py -- it took me a few minutes to figure out that you have to go to this link:
    http://code.google.com/edu/lang...
    and then download the following:

    Hi,
    Please help me with this Python programming assignment. I've been following Google Python Class (http://code.google.com/edu/lang...) in preparation of A.I. course, and I need help with this particular Python example, so I can understand what it does.
    How to run this wordcount.py file? What parameters should I pass on to the program?

    I've tried a few iteration of "wordcount.py {--count | --topcount} alice.txt", but the interpreter/the program doesn't like it.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
