Artluck: Art Critique and Potluck

Art Lovers wanted here.

***You do not have to be an artist to enjoy this meetup!***

It's a revival people! We are reviving Artluck at Kirkland Arts Center and we're gonna do this Seattle-Art-Lovers-style.

This is a great opportunity for you to talk about you and your art. That's what a lot of you have been asking for.

Artists: Do you have something that you are working on and you want some advice or feedback from other artists and art lovers? ...or do you have a finished piece and you want to have it critiqued by an audience?

Art Lovers: Do you wonder about the technical process of how an art piece comes together? Have you ever taken part in an art critique? It's very interesting. I think it will give you a new perspective on art.

For this trial run, I would like us to focus on the T.H.I.N.K. (think before you speak) principles so we can build a constructive and supportive environment in which the artist can develop.

T- Is it True?
H- Is it Helpful?
I- Is it Inspiring?
N- Is it Necessary?
K- Is it Kind?

I'm bringing my version of enchiladas. I bought us utensils/ plates/ cups with some of the money from dues. It'd be good if you could post what you are bringing and next time I'll be better about created a rotation. Thanks for keeping your RSVP up-to-date. See you all tomorrow!

I will be out all day, so I will be stopping at QFC. Not sure what that will be! Maybe something to drink that is non-alcholic ? Or a salad of some type?

I wanted to tell you that I will be there early. There is a kitchen that I will be heating up the enchiladas in. If you need to, you can show up early too. Just let me know.

Sounds good :) I'm not sure about the wine. I'll try to find out but I am still waiting to hear back about another question. We can at least find out for next time. That's a cool idea.

Those who want their work critiqued are encouraged to bring up to 2 pieces. To make sure everyone gets a turn to have their work looked at, we will have one round of critiques where everyone can present ONE of their pieces. If there is time left after the first round, we will have a second round of critiques where people get to present their 2nd piece. In the UNLIKELY event that there is time left after that, we may move on to critiquing extra pieces for anyone who brought more than 2 pieces.

In other words, try to refrain from bringing your entire portfolio ;-), out of respect for other attendees' time.

For digital artists, I would suggest either bringing a print of your work OR a digital device large enough for multiple people to view your work at the same time. (In the interest of time, we'd rather not have to pass a smart phone around for individual critiques.)

    Thanks.

Yes-I can make it-I have been in many painting critiques through attended art school-so I know the drill. You do learn alot by hearing as well as saying constructive comments. Can you forward us details: Where Time what to bring? You mentioned a potluck? I can bring a small painting in also people can view my website: www.bengelsdesign.com click on "Paintings" in navigation bar(kind of hidden)
Please let me know more details on this event on 5/30-thanks!!

Hi Bridget, the time and venue are already in Rachel's event posting. For the potluck, you can bring whatever food or drink item that you want.

This sounds wonderful! Unfortunately I can't make this date, but I hope there's a next one!

No problem, Rachel. I thought that maybe my message went to the Spam folder or maybe you were just swamped with other messages. I too juggle multiple projects and have an email backlog, so I understand. I really appreciate all the energy and initiative you put into the group. I'm willing to take over the critique session after May if the scope becomes smaller (no potluck, just a short, straight-to-the-point critique session). You can loop me in with the KAC coordinator (I don't have her email) and I can continue the discussion with her if that works for you. With this item

(... sorry, hit enter too early) Meant to say. With this item off your plate, I hope that running other events would be less of a burden on your schedule. Take care and enjoy your summer! :-)

      1 · May 5, 2014

  • Nathan and R.

In regard to the present conversation, I think that, at least for the summer, I'm going to figure out a way to step back a little on SAL. I may go to a model where anyone can post and if three people RSVP, then it gets announced. Then, in the fall, I will go back to hosting. If certain people are enjoying posting than we can always make them an event host/ co-organizer etc.. ...then just go from there...

Rachel is there going to be art there? Or are we bringing our art pieces to be critiqued?

    April 21, 2014

    • Nathan and R.

Yes, Christina, bring a painting or two. Yes, everyone, if you are an artist, bring your art so we can see it! This is your time to show us what you do :)

There is a good possibility I will attend this! I will see how I'm feeling closer to the date.
