12.8 miles - Clockwise Loop
Starting Elevation: 2,400 ft
High Poing: 5,400 ft
Elevation Gain: 3000 ft

We'll start at the Silver Creek Trail (#1315) up to Kachess Ridge. Just yards into the hike, the trail pitches up steeply, gaining 1,700 ft in the first 1.8 miles. At 2 miles, we'll pass a side trail and continue forward on the main trail, which crosses Silver Creek ~7 times. Be prepared with waterproof boots or good rockskipping skills! After about 3.5 miles, the trail levels off to a ridge walk through meadows. At 4.5 miles we reach the junction with the Silver Tie Trail (#1308). We'll set up camp along trail #1308, which runs along the south side of West Peak. Day Two we'll head south down the Silver Tie Trail, where there are views of Cle Elum Lake and the summit of Thomas Mountain. After traveling 3.5 miles from the junction of the Silver Creek Trail and the Silver Tie Trail, we'll meet the connector trail (#1308.2) that takes us 2 miles southwest back to the trailhead.

For those of you on the "Yes" list and the "Waiting List" - please update your RSVP if you have made other plans and will not be able to join this hike. I want to make sure that people who want to go and can go, get to go!

Weather for this weekend in Easton, WA (that's 6 miles away from where we'll be going) is supposed to be hot, 84/87 during the day, 61/64 at night, with a 30% chance of rain and a "slight" chance of thunderstorms.

Sharing gear to reduce weight is certainly a good idea. Redundancy to protect against gear failure and subsequent misery is a good idea as well! :) To reduce confusion (so who brought the stove? oops! nobody!), we will split into small 2-3 person teams that will share certain pieces of gear. Be self-sufficient when you come to the P&R, and we will negotiate the sharing/leaving items behind in the car, there.

I couldn't find any information about fires. Usually they are permitted, we'll have to see what is posted at the trail head. Smores would be nice! :) Since we can't rely open fires for cooking, bringing a stove is still essential.

Can we have a fire here? Smores? Also it is not necessary to bring 12 stoves, pots/pans, water filters. Can we consolidates so we can all carry less? :)

    •  It was an amazing hike. Thanks everyone!
    •  Beautiful scenery, reclusive trail, tough elevation changes, fearsome mosquitos!
    •  The trail to Kachess ridge would be a fairly good incline but it's still maintained decently. The rest of the trail, especially towards Domerie divide side is not kept up at all and there is a lot of very steep up and down. The descriptions offered do not describe that portion of the trail very well. There was an extreme amount of mosquitoes as well. Unfortunately our all natural bug spray was not a great deterrent for them. The group however was wonderful, even when we got rained on and fairly drenched.
