Mt. Washington Summit Snow Shoe Hike

How about starting the New Year with a nice snow shoe hike? Mt Washington is a good one. These are pictures from our great Meetup hike Jan 1, 2012.

There are ledges, waterfalls, caves, and a multitude of trails that offer endless loop hike opportunities. For an added bonus, it’s much less known than comparable hikes nearby like Mt. Si or Mailbox Peak.

This is about an 8 mile hike with a 3,200 foot gain. The trail up is rocky and steep in a couple places.

**What to Bring**

Snow Shoes, traction devices, lunch, warm clothes, and your camera.

**Level of Difficulty**
This is a strenuous hike. It’s slightly more difficult than Mt. Si. To enjoy this hike, you should be involved in regular exercise.

I just finished a 3+ weeks travel to Asia (through Hawaii) but the best view is just 30 mins away from home!!

Great hike for the new year with a fun bunch! The snow is pretty hard-packed and slippery for most of the hike, so microspikes were very useful, although gradually we reached powdery conditions near the top and needed snowshoes. Views of Rainer were nice. Thanks to Brent for organizing.

Hi Heather, I sent you an e-mail. Anyway, looks like 1/2 hour drive to the meetup, so I'll be at the 24 hour around 9:15.

Looks like quite a few people on this wait list are going on group B... I'm new and would like to know how we know if we are "in" - off the wait list...

Hi! I've done a lot of hiking and a bit of snow shoeing, but never on Mt. Washington. I'd like to make sure I bring all the right gear, so I'd love if somebody would send me their email and help me be fully prepared. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything essential. Thanks! -Mike
