New York Times Magazine writer Jonathan Mahler tells the inside story of a momentous Supreme Court case. Set against the backdrop of the war on terror, Mahler’s The Challenge: Hamdan V. Rumsfeld and the Battle over Presidential Power tells the story of a military defense lawyer, Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift, assigned by the Pentagon to defend Salim Ahmed Hamdan, Osama bin Laden’s driver, before a special military tribunal. Swift enlisted Neal Katyal, a Georgetown law professor, to help him sue the Bush administration over the legality of the tribunals. In 2006, Katyal argued the case before the Supreme Court and won. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life, with University Book Store.
Tickets are $5 and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com, [masked] and at the door beginning at 6:30. Town Hall members receive priority seating.
