Barack Obama to visit Seattle Aug. 17th - PROTEST

Update 8/16 9:03pm
"The President is scheduled to land in Seattle at about 11:15 a.m.

He'll then hold a roundtable discussion with small business leaders at the Grand Central Bakery in Pioneer Square. Obama is scheduled to make some public remarks shortly after noon. The White House says he'll be talking about strengthening the economy and creating jobs."
See 8/13 update below for rest of BS' itinerary.

May certainly be worth your while to try and hit pioneer square first since this is supposed to be a "public" event, not a "private" event.

At Westin though it looks like the best spot to meet will be at 6th and stewart and westlake, where they all intersect. There is a little park/island there where we could set up some signs and other stuff. There are two little park/islands so we can split up for full effect. I think it would be best, for people who can, to meetup in that area around 11am

All time are tentative and subject to change
10:55a POTUS (President) wheels down Seattle
11:30a POTUS speaks to local business Grand Central Bakery (times appx)
12:15p POTUS departs en route Westin Seattle Hotel
12:45p POTUS makes remarks at fundraiser #1 at Westin
TBD Remarks end; depart for fundraiser #2 at Rob Glaser house in the Madrona neighborhood near Viretta Park
2:35p POTUS makes remarks at fundraiser #2
TBD POTUS wheels up for Columbus, OH
4:00p Press file time ends; load buses
4:30p Press buses depart Westin en route Seattle airport

Update 8-13-10 10pm!
"President Barack Obama will hold two fundraising events when he visits Seattle next Tuesday — a Westin Hotel lunch to support U.S. Sen. Patty Murray's reelection effort and a second lunch at the home of RealNetworks Inc. founder Rob Glaser.

The Seattle P-I.com reports that tickets for the Murray fundraiser top out at $1,000 a seat, and seats for the lunch at Glaser's house will cost $10,000 each."

A public search for Robert D Glaser (Born January 16,1962) of Seattle shows 2 addresses within 0.7 miles of each other. We are still trying to find out exactly where this is at. I suggest a team of WAC people converge on this area (shown in link) with cameras and megaphones in hand. Since timing is difficult, perhaps 11-3.
Rob Glaser addy:
508 Hillside Dr E
Seattle, WA 98112
or
1722 Howell Pl
Seattle, WA 98122

Apparently Glaser's house is near Viretta Park in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood close to lake washington. So I think the 1722 Howell Pl. location may be close to the actual location, still trying to find out for sure. If we get near the area I am sure it will be easy to find out where it is due to increased security. Here is a link to Viretta Park:
http://maps.google.co...

It could also be at 200 Lake Washington Blvd E where E. Denny Blaine Pl and 40 ave E. intersect. Here is a map of that spot, I think this spot is closer to Glaser's house than the 1722 Howell Pl. location (zoom in to see the street specifics):
http://maps.google.co...

Also linked above is the Westin Hotel information:
1900 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101 (206) 728-1000

This is on a Tuesday. I have to work till 12:30pm that day so hopefully I will be able to make it. We need to get as many people as we can out there with signs, dvds, flyers, and your voice with a strong anti-war/anti-new world order message. Help us protest the new world order!!!
I will update this meetup when I get more info.
More Details to come soon...

Apparently along with the fundraiser, Barry Soetoro aka BO will be making a "public appearance" as well.

Ya, not sure where it will be held yet but I should know soon...

    From the AP:

"Details of the trip have yet to be firmed up, but it will include a fundraiser and a public appearance somewhere in the Seattle area. Murray said the visit will allow her to talk with the president about the cleanup of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, aerospace and Boeing, and the state's high tech and green energy sectors."

most of the time you can't get press passes unless you are an accredited reporter (corporate, mainstream media). You can always try though. I should have some info about press availability on monday.

I understand your anger, but the corporate media will make us all look like Tea baggers. The cops will go ape shit over any protests around the President. Stay the hell away. Join attend you local Democratic Party Legislative District meeting with our protest signs and sit in on the meetings. Dick

What did Thomas Jefferson say "Dissent is the highest form of Patriotism". The corporate media will have a camera in their face, should they attempt to demonize, we will call their bluff & post the truth to the masses. Do not fear, do not fret, for when the time comes to speak up and speak out, we cannot let the establishment trample all over our God given rights and inherent humanities, that they would so want to eviscerate. So DO NOT stay away, but stand firm & resolute against the tyranny.

I have a few questions... Where is everyone who's planning on coming planning on parking and how early and what the overall plan on getting as close as you can to let OB know what we think? And what's the organizational plan, is everyone going to be scattered or keep together as a group? Thanks!

Good questions Diane. Would anyone like to work on an organized plan? We could meet up on mumble or in person. Anyone else interested?

I can only recommend that you guys would meet ahead of time to strategize. You can then coordinate your actions in some ways. Siskos idea is also great, mumble is a good platform. Diane, Sisko or Keith, somebody coordinate a plan. I'll both you guys as event organizers so you can use the meetup event.

what's mumble? I guess we could all meet at a coffee shop or something and go over ideas a couple hours before showtime. Parking downtown gets expensive and annoying.. anybody have any ideas about getting there? There is parking garages closer to the waterfront that's realistically priced and always has open spaces, but it'd be a long walk to get to the Westin.

looks like at the Public Market Parking Garage on 1531 Western Ave. is right behind the Pike Place Market and charges # 0 - 1 hour: $4.00
    # 1 - 2 hours: $8.00
    # 2 - 3 hours: $12.00
    # 3 - 4 hours: $14.00
    # 4 - 10 hours: $15.00
    # 10 - 24 hours: $20.00
and the walk may take some time, but doable, so getting there early, around 9-9:30 would be good and maybe we can all meet at a coffee shop a couple blocks from the Westin...

gota work till 12:30pm so i will be late for the westin protest, but i recommend surrounding the hotel with people with signs and dvd/flyer handouts. There is 2 hour parking in cap hill and lower queen which are not too far from the westin, you could take a bus or walk over. I am going to just walk over there after work at 12:30 so i hope something will still be going on. I will try and protest the second location which is still tba.

Good turnout and even better info spread today! I made a short video of Keith and I dropping info-bombs after the Lake Washington event. We had a great convo with some random guy afterward, it reminded me that people really do care, no matter how much propaganda is out there.

passed out a ton of Obama Deception (got from another We are Changer) and Fall of the Republic, INvisible Empire and a bunch of 9-11 cards, dvd's and gave a bunch of 911 handouts to people just bringing awareness to 911. Thanks to Sisko for the DVD's, handouts, cards and magazines. Gave out all 4 and spread them amoung other changers and other like minded people to also give out. The left over dvd's, handouts and zines I have will be given out at the Anarchist Book Fair at the Vera project.

I was there for a couple of hours, shot video, talked to lots of people. I was able to connect with Diane, Ben & Tim on the SW corner of 6th & Stewart thanks to the WACS logo I printed & taped to my hat! They spotted me & since we had never met before that helped, plus got nothing but positive response from others who knew what it meant. I'm just about to go thru the video & get it to Chris. I wish I had gotten to see more of my brethren but met tons of thought-cousins, incl 2 French tourists.
