Mid Week Conditioning Hike: West Tiger 2 & 3 (Steep)

This is a moderate-to-fast paced conditioning hike with several steep sections. You must be in good condition to enjoy this hike.

Meet at the park and ride ready to go at 5:30. Meet on the west side of the parking structure, nearest the corner of 140th Ave SE and SE 32nd St. If you can look up and see a highway overpass, you're on the wrong side!

The trailhead is at exit 20 off I90. Turn right and travel back west on the frontage road; park outside the gate before the pavement ends and the potholes begin. If you're meeting at the trailhead, boots on trail at 5:50.

We'll take the Bus, Nook, and the very steep Section Line trail until we hit the West Tiger Rail Grade. We'll then head SW to find the Seattle View Trail which will take us on another steep climb to the summit of West Tiger 2.

After a short break to regroup, we'll head over to West Tiger 3 and bomb back down to our cars via the Cable Line.

Expect around 5-6 miles with a 2300 foot gain, most of which comes from the two short trails listed above whose names start with S. We'll travel at a moderate to fast pace - 2-2.5 hours (1.5h up, 10m break, 30m down) to complete the loop. This should get us back a little after sunset, so definitely pack a light!

What to bring:

Water, snacks, an extra layer or two, and whatever gear you typically need to stay safe and comfortable.

Headlamp or flashlight is mandatory. Daylight hours aren't quite long enough to give us breathing room for this hike, and it gets dark quickly in the forest. If some or all of the group decides on a different route down finish time will be even later so having a light source is critical.

5:50 PM Start hiking

~7:20 PM Arrive at West Tiger 2

~7:30 PM Depart West Tiger 2

~7:40 PM Arrive at West Tiger 3

~7:45 PM Head down Cable Line

~8:15 PM Arrive back at our cars
