EmberJS has made creating single page client side applications easier than ever.

Bustle.comdiscourse.org, and companies like Square, Groupon, and zendesk (to name just a few) use EmberJS apps in production. Ember's approach makes it easy to build complex JavaScript apps with a sensible, maintainable, and extensible architecture.

During this three hour intro to EmberJS we will build an Ember app. You will leave the evening with a good start towards building your own ember app.

Topics Covered:

The Anatomy of Ember Applications – Convention over Configuration Mapping URLs to Templates – the router and handlebar templates Controller and it's data – the controller, the model and Ember Data Composable UI Components – Ember components

Prerequisites:

A computer running Node JS, with Git installed. Some familiarity with javascript.

Was a great talk. Do you plan on doing more classes in the future demonstrating other Ember features? Or maybe a hackatron on building an Ember app together.

I thought the app was neat, and it's nice to have an example app to look at besides a To Do app...

If we didn't get the prep email, what are the preparation steps? I looked in the discussion board on meetup.com but don't see anything. Could you post a link or instructions here, too? Looking forward to tonight!

Seems like it would've been a lot simpler to run a beginners class without involving git and node.

I'm planning on using the Nitrous.io IDE instead of a local environment for the workshop. Any reason this wouldn't work?

I had a permission error attempting to clone via the git: link but I went to the project's github page and grabbed the https: link which cloned fine for me.

Urban spoon is a website for reviewing restaurants? When I go to Google street view, I see a business called BNB? Is that the correct location?

    January 22, 2014

    • Dave L.

Yes that is the building. Heaps of street parking. Also right on a few bus routes.
