Seattle JS - August Edition

Entrance is on 34th next to Anytime Fitness. Take the elevator OR stairs up to the THIRD FLOOR Suite 300. There is street parking on Fremont Ave, 34th and 38th.

6:00 - 6:30Sign-in, pizza + beer

We'll have a signin app that we will coerce you into using upon your arrival. It will let the whole room know you've arrived and what your areas of technical expertise and interest are. This is of course 100% JavaScript end to end and we'll briefly go over how it's built and have the source up on GitHub. Also, this is a chance to refresh with beer and pizza.

6:30 - 6:45Lightning Talks

Since JavaScript is a broad topic, we'll be doing shorter talks on a wider variety of subjects instead of longer more focused talks. To kick this off we'll be encouraging you to take the stage for a few minutes and share your latest project or idea. Come prepared! We will then have 3 back to back short talks from selected speakers.

6:45 - 7:45: Full Stack JavaScript

Topic #1: Jay Garcia will be discussing the design & inner workings of the DiscoverMusic app, designed and built for Sencha by his company, Modus Create. Author of Ext JS in Action and Sencha Touch in Action, Jay Garcia has been an evangelist of Sencha-based JavaScript frameworks since 2006. Jay is also Co-Founder and CTO of Modus Create, a digital agency focused on leveraging top talent to develop high quality Sencha-based applications.

Topic #2: Mike Schwartz will be providing an introduction to Silk JS, an up and coming server side JavaScript technology that is used to power the data layer for Discover Music. Mike Schwartz, Inventor of Silk JS, is a recognized thought leader in the Sencha Community and Forum moderator.  He's a serial entrepreneur who has experience with many programming languages from Assembly to JavaScript & specializes in assimilating new technologies to produce awesome products.

7:45 - 9:00Huddle-up Time

Instead of doing Q&A after each talk we'll let you break into groups after the talks to get in depth answers to your questions directly from the speakers and have more time to socialize and collaborate with your fellow JavaScript sistren and brethren.

I really enjoyed Jay's presentation and feel like I got a lot out of what he was saying. Kudos!

We weren't able to discuss our lightning talk topics so next month I'll make sure the presenters keep their talks to a tighter schedule.

Looks like some interesting talks! It's too bad there are two other meetups (RoR and PHP) happening on the same night.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
