Integrating Intentional Non-ordinary States

  • Jan 13, 2013 · 6:30 PM

A support group for integrating non-ordinary states of consciousness

**This is a 6 week engagement beginning Sunday 1/13/2012**

Cost: $300 for 6 weeks
Group size limit: 8 people
Dates: 6:30p-9p, the last three Sundays of January and February, 2013 (Jan 13th-Feb 24th, with a break on Feb 3rd).
Location: TBD (somewhere in the Ballard/Fremont/Wallingford area of Seattle)

Non-ordinary states brought about by intensive meditation, intentional use of sacred plant medicines or psychedelic substances can dramatically alter our perception of ourselves and the way we experience the world. When our ideas about what was real fall away, we find there is an open space which can be disorienting, even terrifying. We may discover that such an open space can be ripe with new possibilities for being. Are you or someone you know struggling with a difficult experience (or experiences) of non-ordinary consciousness, or do you simply want to deepen your understanding of your experience? I am forming a therapeutic group to support integration of these experiences in a non-judgemental environment.

Often times just having someone tell us that we aren’t crazy is the first step toward healing. Talking with people who are facing similar challenges helps us realize we are not alone, and what we are going through is a natural part of the human experience. If you are facing judgment from friends, family or our culture, having a safe place to talk about your experience can be an incredible relief.
Sometimes painful, buried memories may arise in non-ordinary states. This can be seen as an opportunity to heal old wounds that we have previously been unable to look at. Welcoming these wounded parts of ourselves in a safe enough group is an opportunity to expose them to light, where they can be examined, understood and blessed. All group members will be invited to share their experiences and no one will be required to participate.
I draw on various teachings to help guide our understanding of the nature of ourselves and of these experiences. Group members will be given the opportunity to consider various models and teachings of Ken Wilber, Bruce Tift, John Welwood, Angeles Arrien and Stanislav Grof. More importantly, this group is a space for open conversation, so you can develop your own understanding of your experience.

If you want to commit to the full 6 week group, you will be asked to pay a $150 deposit to reserve your space, with the remaining $150 due at the first meeting. You may register by telephone or email (contact info below). Questions are welcome. Depending on level of interest, future groups may be offered. If you can’t or don’t want to attend at this time, but want to be notified about future groups, please provide your contact info.

Jason has a masters in psychology, and has been in the mental health field for over 8 years. He has been in private practice for two years, and has been running a men’s group for over three years. He has experience working in a psychedelic harm reduction role with both MAPS and the Burning Man Rangers. Jason is a student of Buddhism and shamanism, and has a black belt in Aikido.

The Integrating Non-Ordinary States meeting was a great success. We are going to turn it into a six-week educational/support group. Right now, we're looking at a start date of Sunday February 3rd. We're lowering the cost to $25/session, and asking for a commitment of six weeks (after the first week). If you are interested, please send me an email: [masked]

I will probably not be posting future event to Meetup, so if like, you can sign up for announcements about future events here: Thank you!

See you all tonight, I hope! In case you haven't been following the comments here: this is a free event, contrary to the information in the original post.

Hello, again! As I have not yet been able to fill the group, I am going to offer a free, open-to-all gathering on Sunday, January 13th, from 6:30p-8:30p. This will be an opportunity to get a feel for what this group offers, and hopefully you will be able to take home something useful. I will allow plenty of time for questions, and invite you to bring your stories of your experiences with non-ordinary states.

Also, I’m pleased to announce that I will be joined by Adrian Scharfetter. Adrian graduated from the California Institute of Integral Studies with a degree in Expressive Art Therapy in 2012, and brings a wealth of information about the psychedelic experience and finding our way to self-love.

This meeting will be held at Present Sense in Wallingford:
4131 Woodland Park Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103 . Feel free to call me if you have any questions:[masked], or email me at [masked].

I hope to see you all there!

Hello! So far I only have one person registered for this group. If you are for sure planning on joining us for the whole 6-week series, please let me know. If I don't get enough people signed up, then I'll change this event (on January 13th) to a free, open conversation about integrating non-ordinary states. I will let y'all know within the next week or so how it is looking.

Hi, everybody. I put this comment in my RSVP, just wanted to make sure everybody saw it: I'm happy to see some interest in this series. I encourage you to sign up in advance. And I'd love to answer any questions you have about the group. Feel free to check out my web site: Thanks for posting, Danielle.
