After thoughtful consideration, 10gen will be changing its company name to MongoDB, Inc today. This change will simplify communication and better align the company to the MongoDB open source project and community.
As many of you know, 10gen originally began as a cloud computing company and MongoDB was developed as the data layer. Eventually, the team began to transition its focus toward building MongoDB full-time, but the company name remained the same.
Our goal with this change is to align our company name with the project and more accurately reflect the close relationship between the open source project and the company.
We spoke to a number of community members and consulted linguistic and other specialists as we explored making this change. Thanks to everyone in the community who helped out with that process.
The MongoDB project and mongodb.org will be unaffected by this change. The 10gen.com website will be migrated to mongodb.com and our new company logo will be the same as the MongoDB logo. This change should not affect your user groups.
Thanks for your support of MongoDB and the community. I’ll be at my desk for the next few hours. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
