Thanks for your interest in the Seattle Music Business Meetup Group (SMBMG). Below you'll find a Q&A that will hopefully give you some insight on what we're all about.
Q: What kind of people are in this group?
A: Musicians, producers, and other music industry professionals. This group is for individuals that are serious about their career in the music industry. The focus of the SMBMG is to help each member achieve greater success in the music industry.
Q: Are there any fees associated with membership?
A: There are currently no membership fees for this group, however, from time to time there may be events which require fees.
Q: What will I get out of this group?
A: Like everything in life, you'll get out of this group what you put into it. We're open to all kinds of ideas and encourage all of our members to GET INVOLVED with the activities and planning of our meetups. You'll find it to be a rewarding experience in more ways that you might imagine.
Q: Are there any rules?
A: Just the basic rules of respect for all our members. That's a given. And please keep your RSVPs as up to date as possible. In other words... If you say you're going to show up then show up. It makes it difficult for organizers to plan accordingly when RSVPs are not kept up to date.
Q: Who's the organizer this group?
A: My name is Peter Fosso. (A special thanks to my predecessor, Courtney LeMarco for helping to grow this group!) Much of my life I've spent as a musician and entrepreneur. As you may already know, I am also the founder of Global Music Project, a non-profit organization that helps music fans discover independent artists from around the world while it helps support its music preservation mission. I hope you can visit the site, create a profile, and donate your music or make a financial contribution (you'll be thanked on the website at the end of the year).
In addition to my work with Global Music Project, I'm now the head of development for Music2Deal in the United States. Music2Deal is the definitive online networking site for the music industry, helping managers, booking agents, producers, music supervisors, artists and other music industry professionals promote their songs, artists, and businesses to thousands of Music2Deal members in over 30 different countries.
Let's make our events beneficial for everyone, so please contact me with your suggestions - especially re: when/where you'd like to meet.
I'm looking forward to meeting you!
