Looks like some decent weather for next week, Tues - Fri... anyone up for a ride?

Finally, I've got some time to go through the ride's pictures and upload the not so hopelessly out of focus. Uploaded the track for the day (my ride) and some stats. It seems the GPS went hi-wire during the ferry ride but that's just for kicks.

I had a really good time. Just a nice size of a group and good folks to hang out with. Tyler, welcome to the area, you're gonna love it. Claudette, thanks for leading. You surely do know those back roads.

Great riding with you guys. Great idea Tyler. Thanks for showing us some new roads Jim and George!

Great ride with some spectacular scenery.

The new location is excelent. Trafic at 10 in the morning should be bearable. Tyler got the point, return options are better, as the traffic will be lighter going south and city congestions can be by-passed.
    I'll be there tomorrow.
Tyler, if you can, change the locaton above. If not ask one of the organizers to do it for you.

George, I'm more concerned with the evening traffic, any input?

      January 13, 2014

The traffic southbound I-5, in the afternoon is light. Everybody is trying to get out of the city (the other direction). This is true to about exit 173 (Northgate). Further south is always the same - pretty much parking lot. However, there are several options to by-pass - hwy-9; 405 and bunch of north/south intercity roads, all further east. All depends where you are going. Google traffic will show them. If going to the other (south) end of Seattle the only option is to wait pass 6:30pm. Then ride I-5 with gusto.

Thanks Claudette, I've also updated the location address on the meetup page. This Starbucks is located in the Office Max shopping center on the South West corner of Mukilteo Speedway and Evergreen Dr, across the street from Jiffy Lube.

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning.

Okay, so I've updated the route to start with the ferry and at the coffee shop: http://goo.gl/maps/yk4Yg. FYI we won't get onto Hwy 20 to get to Pt. B, our gas stop (couldn't save link as shortcut if I changed that). Tyler, I'll update the date/time, you the location. See you in the morning guys!

I was thinking we'd use Claudette's modification of the original route (see link below), and start off with Ferry per your suggestion... this also leaves two options of the return part of the ride of taking the Pioneer hwy route of jumping on I-5

    http://goo.gl/maps/g0Xin;

Was also thinking that we'd move the meetup location to the Starbucks that is closer to the Ferry Terminal? There is one at 12502 Mukilteo Speedway
Mukilteo, WA 98275. Any objections to that?

Sounds good, but was thinking about taking the ferry back so we don't have to worry about Boeing traffic in Everett on the way back. Can someone chime in since I'm not usually in this area on a weekday? Could always jump over to Hwy 9, just want to be prepared.
I'm cool leading or if someone else wants to. I have to be in Bellevue at 6pm for work but can do Tues, but prefer Wed or Thur - the forecast changed and the 3 days are similar.

      January 13, 2014

  • George

Hey guys, have you decided on the route? I'd like to know so I can meet you along the way.

    January 13, 2014

  • George

Lets get over the ferry ride at the beginning. Thus, have minimal impact on the ride time. Then, at the end, the freeway is always a quick bailout.
Side Note - l personaly avoid ferries at this time of the year. It eats too much of prime riding time. Summertime is different game - it stretches the ride or serves as bailout.

Sorry, I completely overlooked some prior appointments I have on Friday, so it looks like it'll be Tuesday.

Thanks Claudette, and if you're game, you could lead as you know the area, and the ferry system. I'd be happy to ride 2nd, or even sweep since I'll be learning the route. What are your thoughts on the ferry, better to start the ride, or end the ride with that? Friday sounds good to me too, supposed be nicer weather that day also.

    January 10, 2014

Nice area to ride. I opt for Friday. Here are a couple of options with more backroads:
    Revised orig: http://goo.gl/maps/g0Xin
Whidbey only to Oak Harbor: http://goo.gl/maps/gCFPr
    Whidbey only to Coupeville: http://goo.gl/maps/KqOzU
Can meet at the ferry or somewhere before to show those who haven’t take a bike on the ferry how to skip the car line to get to the biker area. Also I’m real familiar with this area and happy to ride wing to guide you through.

Here is a link to a potential route for this ride... Just to be up front I have not ridden this route, so I very well may get lost... it's also quite possible the first leg up toward Anacortes might not be terribly exciting as it's freeway miles, but I think the leg back through Whidbey Island looks good... please chime in with any feedback / input if you're familiar with these areas, as well as if you are interested in going and a preference of Tuesday the 14th vs Friday the 17th...

Next week is looking decent... Tuesday the 14th is sunny with a high of 50, and Friday the 17th looks even better, sunny and high of 56. Being new to the area I don't know good routes yet, but if someone has a suggestion...? We can adjust the date and time depending on interest / availability...

I'm game, how long of a ride are you looking do? Happy to send you some route ideas - Oh check out what we did for the Kangaroo Farm ride last Aug. That's a nice one, or the newbie ride. Or the one for NW Trek.

Where can we go? It's too cold and wet IMHO :(

    January 9, 2014

    • Claudette

O h buck up Kareem, we're going into a heat wave compare to the rest of the North. Lots of choices: Whidbey Island, Kitsap Pen, backroads from Snohomish-Monroe-Woodinville-Carnation. Where's my Destination Highways? Time to dust it off. ;)
