Neah Bay

Supposed to be another sunny weekend so it's time to stretch our legs and go for a longer ride. Going to head out to Neah Bay as that's one of my favorite roads and I've not been out there for a while. Will take a pretty direct route there but may venture onto side roads on the way back if anyone is up for it (it is a long day remember).

I plan to stick to the coastline (Hwy 112) both there and back as I think it is a much better road than 101 south of Lake Crescent. Not as pretty perhaps but not as much traffic and not as much police activity. If you have not been out this way before the route is pretty dull up to Port Angeles but after that it gets very interesting and is a lot of fun.

Google Map

Ferry leaves Edmonds at 8:50am so I plan to be there around 8:30ish. Recommend you buy your ticket in advance as it makes life easier from you. You can buy it online here.

Come with full tank of gas (there are gas stations shortly before the terminal) or at least enough to get to Port Angeles. We will stop there for briefly for a break and gas.

Will probably do a quick lunch in Neah Bay but I'm not planning on anything too fancy. In and out in an hour max I expect, but probably best to bring snacks just in case. I'm not one for leisurely lunches when riding.

There is no restriction on numbers on this one as it is hard to get lost (there are only two turns the whole way there!). So faster people at the front and give everyone space. If you have not been on one of my rides before then I encourage you to read my ride notes to see if it matches your style.

Hope to see you there.

Wow, Thanx for the update Nova.... pretty crazy that a similar bike crashed on 112 the same weekend... I reread it 3 times, and it had was way to similar....didnt think you were airlifted either. Jumped the gun, my bad...

Thanks to Ian for the great route and to all for the great company. On our way out of Neah Bay we came across 3 sport bikes that were riding agressively towards Neah Bay. I suspect that one of them on their Suzuki is the subject of the article from ther Peninsula Daily News.

Rumors are no good, especially when that person was seriously injured, the article is about someone else, that really happened to someone else. I was with the officer on the seen when that call came in, when he was bringing me home. I got away very lucky compared to that guy. So please lets put Saturday to rest when it comes to me. I had a great time and a little spill, you guys were great and support with my road rash was awesome. I am healing great, and my bike is cosmetic no dents, just floor

Personally, Im glad you posted it, for just last week a 35 year old rider was KILLED on Mt Pleasant road for eluding the cops, and a late last autumn a kid has his leg ripped off after crashing on 112.

Last summer an old friend was hit head on his bike while on 112 and spent 6 month in Harborview in traction, so ANY news I hear about an accident I hear about around the Peninisula usualy doesnt have good endings.

Yeah, I actually found the pictures very reassuring as well. Didnt look to bad, a few scratches& dents, and a bruised ego. We were in Lake Quinault and had a lot of questions but little information on his condition or the bikes. So from hme, THANX

Great route, as always from Ian! Wish I'd have been able to stay over and explore the cape a bit, but it was a great day of riding. Glad that Nova's spill was minor and good fortune in the offer of a ride home for both himself and his bike. :)

I looked at the photos and was glad to see Nova was in as good as can be expected spirits and also that his bike didn't look too badly damaged. I had heard he took a tumble, wasn't sure how bad and was reassured by the photo's. I wish him all the best.

As I said to Ian via email, I want to apologize for posting too quickly the pictures of Neah Bay without checking first, Nova please accept my heart felt apology, no ill intentions, just carelessness on my part. I am usually very careful. Take Care

had a great ride the only thing that brought it down is having someone go down.
and the good part is he is ok
and meeting 2 of the nicest people i have meet in a long time
a local by the name of kris and a callum county sheriff captain anderson
who used his own truck to haul novas bike from seaque to edmonds
he went way above and beyound duty on this one
i would not believe it if i didn't see it myself

Highway 112 is always fun and today was just super from a weather perspective. Not too much 4 wheel stuff to get in our way. Bruce and I hiked the Cape Flattery trail. Couldn't have been better day for it. Hit the 101 diner in Sequim coming home for some num num's. Thanks to Ian for organizing a great day.

Oh Ian, Just FYI. If you already have bought your ferry ticket online, you can drive all the way to the front of the loading dock, present your ticket at the booth there, and pull your bike up to the front of the Ferry line.

Cant speak to the condition of 112 but it sure looks like a hoot to ride.

As someone who was born and raised in Port Angeles, 112 to Neah Bay has ALWAYS been beat up.... LMAO!!!

I may do as Georgia has mentioned and continue on & around the Peninsula, I still want that bowl of Clam Chowder at Kalaloch and a shot of Scotch @ Lake Quinault.

    May 9, 2012

  • Ian

Thanks Theodore. We will still try it out and see what it's like, but maybe we will take 101 back if it's just too beat up.
