Kangaroo Farm Run

  • Oct 7, 2012 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

While the Lady Riders has made this an annual ride to kick off International Women Rider's month in May, I'm posting a co-ed ride for guys to join us to play with the roos. Who knows, might make this an yearly co-ed ride too!

Here's the route: http://goo.gl/maps/pgCHX

Arrived gassed up at 10am and ready to go at 10:15am after the pre-ride spiel. If you'd like to meet along the way, let me know. We'll stop in Granite Falls for lunch before our 2pm tour at the Outback Kangaroo Farm ($8 cash only admission fee). For those on the north end you can meet us at any point along the way.

The is a Novice+ ride taking us mostly along the backroads. I want to encourage riders of all levels to join us, whether it's your first ride with the group or you're a regular. This will be in sport-touring fashion with the spirited riders up front and the casual riders in the back so we all can ride at a pace we like. Before making turns, we'll stop to make sure the group is all together. After the Farm you can take the freeway directly home or take the backroads back to Monroe then part from there. I'll lead the group down the back roads to Hwy 522 to 405.

I have several family band radios I'd be happy to bring, though I don't know what one needs for communication from inside a helmet. The CB setup I used to use was a Chatterbox setup designed for motorcycles.

After the 3rd time losing the group, I ended up in Sultan. I should of had a map. Tried to find my way to Granite falls and stopped at a buddys in Lake Stevens and watched the Hawks! More organization is needed for large group rides, better luck next time!

Glad to hear you are okay Steve. Didn't we talk on Trombley/Robinhood Rd? Where did you loose us on Trombley before we waited/turned on Spada Rd (that's where that guy did the burnout)? Yes, next time we have a large group I will insist on everyone having directions, as they should in the first place. Easier that way. However I like Russ' suggestion of radios - who's footing the bill for that one? ;)

Thanks for coming out everyone. So sorry Chad and Frankie we lost your dad and to the spyder riders. Apologies to you too Steve and thanks for offering to be sweep. Too bad you didn't meet us for lunch in Granite Falls or at the farm. Next time in a group this large I'll insist everyone have a copy of the route. Weird, don't know where the one posted came from. Maybe the cache didn't replace it when I went to replace it with the final route. Anyway, here's an updated version (except I left Jordan Rd in) including the route we did on the way back in case anyone wants to do it again another time: http://goo.gl/maps/7w44o

I was thinking that when I saw how large the group was, but thought I'd try something different since I've had groups this size before - a few times w/ litte/no prob. However with the equipment issues and missed signals, I think that was a large part. But having people knowing the route (and the same one) really helps. Appreciate the input. ;)

Radios help a lot. For managing larger groups, it's very nice to have a few "sub-leads" equipped with CBs in the group (since they have the range to handle a good separation). Plus, you can directly communicate with the sweep rider that way.

LOL, I know, I'm ready to. Was thinking Mima Mounds if the weather changes. Check out our previous trips - http://www.meetup.com... Can't believe it was 3 years ago we had the 30+ group: http://www.meetup.com...

Me and Dorothy had a nice time. She says she's hooked. She has only been out a few times on bike and it was first time with a group.

Back half was caught at a light from what I hear :/ I think it was the one at the bottom of a hill before that bridge by the farms.

Definitely. I didn't bring my 1125R today, which has a much better toolkit in it (more space). I really need to raid a parts/tool store and build a dedicated Buell toolkit.

Due to a helmet visor issue, I got separated from the group. Thanks Libbie for staying behind and providing support. It was very nice, but truly unnecessary, to demonstrate that anyone can have visor issues :)

We got back - the repaired carb boot held just fine down the highway. Thanks for stopping!

Hey all, since we have a good sized group going, if you can gas up in Redmond and/or make the 120 RT (from Redmond) on 1 tank of gas from whereever you are, please do. We only have about 1hr in Granite Falls to eat and gas, so if you can cut out the gassing part, that will help on the time. See you soon!!

BigB - sorry you can't make it - I am going to have to come back early for work, but will keep the place in mind for a Christmas tree. Hope to see you and Beth soon.

Hey Lash, congrats. I'm thinking of stopping at the tavern next to Omega in Granite Falls - look out for my bike. As for the time, check out the route and use that as your guide as to when we'll be arriving. See you Sunday!!
