Lunch at a Hole in the Wall

The existence of memorable Thai restaurants are far and in-between for me in Seattle. Thai Tom's violently passionate wok chef cranks up mouthwatering perfection a la the drunken noodle and panang curry. I requested a 4 star spicy and gosh darn it that is EXACTLY the spice level I expected, a rare occasion for me. Closest thing to a GREAT streetside cafe in Bangkok, Thailand.

Thai Tom ONLY serves like street food the LUNCH special and is in demand. They open at 11:30 and we get there about 20 minutes shy of opening to see a line already starting. By the time the door opens, it will be about 15 deep.

Thai Tom is hands-down one of the most unique Thai restaurants I've ever been to.

You can watch the cook prepare the meals. And the cook was a Fire performer. It looked like he was cooking at least four meals simultaneously but did it with precision and finesse. It was almost like watching a show on Food TV.

It did take a while before our food was ready but watching the cook in action made the wait less tedious.

The restaurant itself is pretty small and can feel somewhat claustrophobic. I don't think this place will handle large groups too well. Also, the place is pretty noisy because of the cooking and the chatty crowd.

In sum, the food is great and sit near the cook for a visually amazing experience. But don't expect to be treated like royalty.

The small, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere may be off-putting to some, but I personally enjoy the ambiance.

If you have never had or would like to try Thai Street food. It's a wonderful dining experience. Please come and join us and meet some new friends.

mmm..panang chicken (used to be #24) - usually the line outside moves along pretty quick, but if it doesn't I will have to grab and go

This place is tiny, cramped, and dark. The cooks are skilled and provide a show by cooking over open flames. you sit on a counter surrounding the cooks and just get entertained. there is always a line here with a wait of at least an hour !!

This is one of *the best* Thai restaurants in town. I miss eating here (used to all the time when I was a student at UW). GO! They won't disappoint. Seriously delish food.
