Shellfishing in the South Sound #3

  • Jun 2, 2012 · 10:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Directions: I-5 south of Tacoma dome. Take West Bound Hwy. 16 continuing across Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Take the fifth exit marked PURDY. Road will take you down long hill. At the bottom, turn left at the light, cross over the Purdy bridge and continue for 5 miles. Turn Right onto Hwy 302. There is a light at the intersection and you will have a right turn lane too! Follow Hwy 302 for 8 miles and house is on the left. If you get lost, call [masked] Please park on the property, NOT ON THE STREET! WSP ticketing cars parked on Hwy 302. Bring light raincoat....just in case.

Third annual clamfest on North Bay in the south sound. Low tide is at 11:00 a.m. with millions of large fresh clams begging to be freed from the ground. I will host the event at my place on the water with lots of dishes possibly including paella, cioppino, linguini vongole, oysters on the half shell and lots of bbq. more info will be forthcoming. This will be one of the few saturdays left this summer with good tides when I can host. First 20 rsvps will be in for a very memorable event. J

Parking may be limited. Please carpool with others. Event will run until around 3 or 4 p.m. ALL TOOLS AND BUCKETS WILL BE PROVIDED... Hiking boots are recommended but not required. Flip Flops will actually work if you do not go into the oyster field. The State requires shellfish harvesters have a license. If you do not have a shellfish license, you will do fine as there will be lots of food and you can still try your hand at digging clams. You just can't take home a bucket. As for cost, this event is hosted but any donations dropped in the donation jar will be greatly appreciated.

Outstanding meetup! I can't even begin to express what a great time Rob and I had. Our hosts had a lovely home, were so very welcoming and gracious, and J provided a very educational clamming/oyster experience. The food was divine. Many Mahalos to J and his wife for an excellent day:-)

Jay, I missed a connection from San Antonio to Denver and am stuck there right now. Will most likely not be able to make it in time, but hope I can make it to the next one. Sorry

Jay, I'm flying back into Seattle on Fri night and will be picking up a rental car Sat morn (long story). Will be heading out from Kirkland and will be a little late.

Btw, does anyone want to carpool from Kirkland?

    June 1, 2012

  • Mike

Anyone want to carpool? I've asked before and got little response. I don't think Uncle J would appreciate have 20+ cars. I'm coming from Seattle Center area so anywhere along the I-5 corridor is fine.

! I have to work this weekend, so happy clamming to you all!

Regarding the ferry, I prefer Fauntleroy, mostly because it is conveniently close to me.

Hi Adrienne, are you still looking for carpooling? Thanks!

The Bremerton ferry puts you pretty close to Belfair, and it's a cool drive - the kiddo likes the Naval shipyard.

Planning to take a Ferry to add a little fun to the trip :) Which one is better Bremerton or Fauntleroy/Southworth?

Yoshie P you would need to meet me in LQA-Seattle since Lynnwood isn't on the way to Tacoma

    May 9, 2012

  • Yoshie P

    Mike,
My friend & I may need to get a ride unless someone from North(Lynnwood) is willing to drive. Is that OK?

RSVP ETIQUETTE: Since we have limited space I ask that you (and your guest) be considerate of others and commit to your RSVP. Your no-show may prevent someone else from attending and you from attending other limited dinner events like this.

I can drive too but I'm in Seattle, over by Lower Queen Anne. I can take 3 pax. Just chip in some gas money.

  • David M

For folks on the eastside or Seattle, I'd like to suggest meeting at 9am at the Bellevue P&R[masked]th Place Southeast, Bellevue, WA -- making the 90 minute drive more economical and social :-) And, pitching in generously for gas! Speak-up if you expect to be at the P&R. Cheers, David

Location is about 30 minutes west of the Tacoma Narrow Bridge. Plan on about a little more than a 1 hour drive from Downtown Seattle. All tools, buckets, and guaranteed successful "guide" service provided. Steamer Clams and Oysters on beach. (sorry, no razors nor geoducks)
