Featuring Western Art (including Native American, Cowboy, and Wildlife pieces), the "Once Upon a Time in the West" art show will showcase beautiful works of art from talented artists at the Cripple Creek Heritage Center. Show dates are from June 28th - July 7th, 2013. Show times will be from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Featured artists include: Rod "Little Bear" Sutton, Jon Zimmer - "Walks Alone", Jim Redhawk, Beth Redhawk, Dixie K. Clare, Michael Slancik, "Two Dogs" Doyle

Going on its 16th year, this art show will donate 10% of all sales to art education purposes benefiting Teller County Schools, so please come support these artists and your local schools.
On June 28th, from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., there will be an Artists' Reception. This event is open to the public, and will include a Native American Blessing and Smudge Purification Ceremony at 6:00 p.m.

Now in its 82nd year, Donkey Derby Days tops the list of favorite Cripple Creek events. People from all over the world descend on downtown, drawn by a chance to watch a race inspired by the town’s resident donkey herd, believed to be distant relatives of the original donkeys from the town’s Gold Rush days. Enjoy games, live entertainment, heritage competitions and other fun family activities that will make your visit one to remember!

The origins of this popular Colorado donkey festival date back to the 1930s, when local businessman Charley Lehew thought a Cripple Creek festival would attract people in the summer months. It wasn’t long before he and two business partners settled on donkey racing. Together, they built a race track, solicited advertising and arranged concessions and entertainment in time for the first-ever Donkey Derby Days festival.

Today, this two-day jamboree is one of the most popular of all the Cripple Creek events held throughout the year, and admission to this exciting Cripple Creek festival is 100% FREE!
The donkey races aren’t the only things going on this weekend, however. Visit our street vendors, enjoy our live entertainment and participate in a host of other family activities such as our heritage competitions or our activities for the children - guaranteed to make this weekend the best Donkey Derby Days ever. Don't forget Fido - we have a dog show where your best friend can compete for prizes!

And of course, we just can't miss the town's traditional hearty Steak Dinner. Sponsored by the Wildwood Casino, the steak dinner will be served on Saturday night in the Wildwood Casino's outdoor parking lot. Grab a steak off the grill and get fueled for an evening of fun! Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a Street Dance on 2nd Street and Bennett Avenue, featuring Arch Hooks!

Have a great day everyone!

Don, thanks for organizing this. Hope you had a good time with the other group after we left. On our way out we ran into some friends from Woodland Park. They wanted to show us around the casinos, so we toured the casinos and learned where to get free popcorn, cookies, sodas and burgers, and where to go for a 49 cent breakfast:)
