This is a 7.6 mile round trip hike with a moderate rating. The trail head sits at 9760 feet of elevation.
Drive west from Colorado Springs on US Hwy 24, through Woodland Park, to Divide. Turn south (left, at the light) on CO 67. Go about 9 miles.

You'll see the remains of an old tunnel facing you as you come around a curve. On the other side of this tunnel is the trail head on the left. There is no sign! You can park on either side. To the west it is dominated by the prominent Sentinel Point (12527 ft).
There are three main trails in the area and they all share the same trailhead located at the parking lot next to the closed Little Ike Tunnel. At first the trail gains elevation for about 0.8 miles. At that point it levels out and you can turn left, crossing the creek into a nice valley with beaver ponds. This trail is part of Ring the Peak system and continues north. Going straight east we'll see a sign pointing to the Pancake Rocks or The Falls. We'll do Pancake Rocks first then retrace our steps to the trail split and head up to Horse Thief Falls.

At first we'll climb up through series of switchbacks and then follow an easy trail until we reach interesting rock outcropping at the end. Rocks seem to be stacked on each other hence the name. This trail offers great views south and west towards Cripple Creek.

I'll see you soon,

Dorothea

If anyone is interested in meeting at the Crags Campground in Colorado Springs Friday morning I have a campsite I'll share with a couple people. Rebecca, her husband Jay will be there also.
