Secret Handshake #32

This month we're going to try another venue: Arkadash Bistro & Lounge.

We had some issues with Fox & Fiddle last month, primarily they put us in a room with a "dining room" license meaning we were all supposed to buy food in order to hold our event there. Which they did not disclose until the event started up! It was a great venue, with lots of cool stuff going on, however we wanted to try out a new venue and see what is out there.

Anyway, Arkadash is rad. They have a dedicated lounge space for us, excellent service and staff, great furniture, food and drinks. It has a "lounge" license, and FREE valet parking.

So come out, bring your friends, chat with like-minded creative folk, and meet some awesome Winnipeggers on Nov 29th at Arkadash.

Can't wait.

I thought I would be there until about 8:30. Boy, was I wrong- it was so interesting, I stayed until past 10.

This one felt like a warm hug. Maybe it was the venue, maybe it was arriving just in time to see Michael's hard work with the Awesome Foundation finally pay off, maybe it was the abundance of facial hair, but it just had a nice "baby it's cold outside" vibe last night. Justin's mixes were a real treat too. Minus one star because I didn't get to talk to everyone I wanted to (do you ever though?) and because in spite of the overall vibe, no actual hug from Leanne this time.

I'm glad I came. The random decision to attend this meetup while developing with Meetup API and noticing a local group, was a great decision. :)! Met a lot of awesome people, and, looking forward to the next one. Had a blast

Leaving for the states tomorrow, and I'm a little behind schedule as far as packing goes. Probably won't be able to make it - if I don't, I'll catch you next time around!

    Hey Secret-Handshakers,

Be sure to stop by Cinematheque this weekend Sat 7:00pm and Sun 9:00pm for the first Winnipeg showing of 100 Yen: The Japanese Arcade Experience. (

Featuring work by fellow SH alum such as Patrick Letourneau, BJ Verot, Bryson Cendioza and yours truly. If you can't make it, don't fret. We are planning a larger launch party in January with appearances by Kert Garner and the Winnitron folks among others! See you all Thursday!

Hey, everyone! I mentioned the Awesome Foundation a long time ago, but we're finally awarding our first grant. We've chosen to present the winner right at the beginning of Secret Handshake, at 6:00.

The Awesome Foundation has chapters around the world that give out $1000 grants to people or groups doing awesome, community-building things, so I'm pleased (as punch!) that I can offer this now to my fellow Winnipeggers.

If you're doing something awesome, feel free to apply at
    The submissions close next Thursday.

confusion: is this event at the Fox and Fiddle like on the email invite, or at the Arkadash Bistro like is says on this page?

There was an email two days ago from Meetup that said the venue was being changed to Arkadash. Would be good to indicate that on this page as well though (i.e. that the location has been changed!)

Hi Folks. I have added some more background info on the event details section of the page (above). We often change locations due to many different factors. Sorry for the confusion, the event is now at Arkadash. Great staff there who are really organized and ready to hold our event. Great food, local business, and a great spot for us to check out.

I didn't realize Winnipeg had this many creatives willing to get together. The attendance is to large to pass by. Looking forward to meeting like/near minded strangers.

6+5-7=4, which is one lower than the lowest number, that makes the order (from lowest to highest), 4,5,6,7. Those integers are in order, and so, it can be considered as a perfect increase. What else is perfect? Art. (If it wasn't, then it would also be art because art is subjective)

Wow, 656 creatives, great job Leanne!!
