GDC Manitoba Presents: PENCILS DOWN - A Bluesky Workshop
Led by Mark Baskinger, associate professor in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh), and William Bardel, principal of Luminant Design (New York City), this workshop offers clear and concise ways to learn how hand-sketching techniques – with pencils and pens – are an effective means of recording, presenting and sharing ideas. A primer on sketching, it will help you become a more confident and better visual communicator, while demonstrating simple ways of using drawing to enhance the process of collaborative design.
Led by the co-authors of Drawing Ideas, this event will broaden your sketching skills to capture rapid visualization of thoughts, concepts and scenarios, as Mark and Will introduce drawing and sketching techniques, and provide methods that include drawing as part of a generative design process. Expect to be engaged, challenged and rewarded – even experienced sketchers will learn something new.
In this immersive workshop, you will be introduced to design sketching, learn quick and dirty techniques for representing people, objects and ideas, familiarize yourself with scenario sketching and take part in group drawing projects. By the end of this workshop – with a balanced combination of presentation and ample time for hands-on drawing – you will have learned techniques you can customize and build on, and new ways to work more creatively.
