We'll follow the large orange trail loop to waterfalls and a very scenic lookout. There are some rock scrambles and steep elevation gains, but if you're in good shape, you'll enjoy the workout. As with all SECTA hikes, hiking shoes or boots are required. Strongly recommend quick dry clothing - it will keep you cool, strong and happy on a hot, sweaty, humid day. Cotton will not. Please bring bug spray, water and trail snacks, I suggest protein bars, as we will take a break to enjoy the views. I'm thinking maybe 2-2.5 hours total.
Afterwards, there will be a potluck BBQ listed as a separate meet-up event that you will have to sign up for if interested.
For trail map and more info, www.ct.gov/deep and find Devil's Hopyard State Park listed under outdoor recreation heading.
USE ONLINE DIRECTIONS! I'm not sure about map on this page.
Please PARK NEAR THE COVERED BRIDGE AS THAT WILL BE OUR STARTING POINT. I hope to claim picnic tables nearby that we can also use for the apres hike potluck BBQ.
RAIN DATE: Saturday, June 1 or as announced.
