We'll meet at the parking area off Mt Archer Rd marked by a 3 ft tall stone post on the left as you go up the hill. We will hike the white trail loop on the south side to warm up, then cross to the north areas to a series of loops that will eventually bring us back to our cars. I'm thinking 5 to 7 miles total in about 3 to 4 hours. Rolling terrain, streams, fields, wetlands and the Eight Mile River. More than a beginner hike, but not quite moderate either. We'll burn off some holiday calories!
Dress appropriately for a cool weather hike with layers of quick dry clothing. Hiking shoes or boots required. Suggest bringing microspikes just in case. Don't forget water and snacks.
For our after hike gathering for food and drink, I suggest The Hideaway off Halls Rd in Old Lyme.
