I grew up in the Pentecostal church and about 4 years ago, I started to break away from organized religion all together. What brings me to this group is my desire to have conversations with people that understand the implications of religion in our world and that don't think that just because I do not believe in supernatural beings, I eat babies or have no moral compass. The minute you tell someone you are a non believer, they immediately assume you are immoral or something is wrong with you.
No, I do not believe in any supernatural deity.
Absolutely. I mostly identify with Secular Humanism because it takes a realistic and science based approach when dealing with any given matter. I also like the fact that it is broader then say atheism or agnosticism. It has a very specific world view and principals that one can follow and adhere to. It's not just simply the lack of belief in a supernatural being. I subscribe and try to live by the Humanism principles and as a public school teacher, the separation of church and state is especially one that I hold dear.
I live in Miami - close to the Doral area.
I am already a member of the book club that is led by Tara. I didn't realize there was this group as well so when I ran across it, I decided to join. I look forward to meeting you all.
Hi, I am interested in meeting like minded individuals in a world where everyone seems to have their heads in the clouds rather than their feet on the ground.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Great conversation with an amazing group of people... I have yet to be disappointed! Hope to see you all very soon:-)
