Why are you a Humanist?

I am an Atheist, I believe in improving the well being of society. I would sooner work in a soup kitchen than go to a church service. I believe that as an Atheist and a Humanist, I must give back to society. There are religious people who do help others; but would I give them a Bible instead of proper nourishment if they were starving? Of course not! In wanting to help others to gain some eternal reward. I am helping others because I have Morals, because everyone deserves a second chance. I love all people and in Mormonism I was taught, you must be Mormon to go into Heaven. I never did like this notion. Even when I was Mormon, the very thought of my best friend of the time going to Hell (or Outer Darkness they call it) depressed me. Why do I get special privileges? Why do I get eternal happiness when others get eternal damnation? With my belief in Atheism, I no longer imagine my dear friends having such a sad fate of eternal burning in the fires of a fictional place. I am free!

HI, I'm Janell a newly pronounced Atheist. I finally changed when I had a Near-Death Experience and realized that there's no god, no afterlife, that all religion is complete shit and that the well being of others matters more than a preacher's words.
