Thank you Drew!

This is what Sebastian Stadil has send me a while back.

Next event:
May special event on sematics and web search, Fairmont Hotel in San Jos?

Light introduction
What is RDF?

Premise different kind of data structure than RDB, it's a data graph.
Frontend to different kinds of data, providing a metadata
infrastructure for queries
Early uptake in Law Enforcement BioInformatics, Finance, Web and
Social Network Solutions, EAI Publish data in relationships to one
another
Ontology based infrastructure, decoupling of the data is what's
valuable Key characteristic - discovery to application building,
overcome silos of data, building over industry standards
Start with different kinds of systems, moving them in an RDF
structure, join data in rich ways.
Information production outstrips information processing power (?)
Highest level, graph databases. Lower level disk based, or ram based.
Query at runtime.
Disk->RDB, layered / embedded, disk->columnar, ram don't scale, use
clusters Exciting: many ways to skin the cat. No right technical
approach

Different approaches to create rdf stores New way to break the information silos

Scaling rdf stores:
Vertica, designed as a database, for analytical applications

Sam:
Column Store Architecture, ideal for read-intensive workloads. Row
oriented. Column vs Row (more IO for subset). Column oriented is
better for subsets (non *). Read oriented.
Aggressive Compression, reduction of IO Query optimized storage, High
Availability with painless recovery, replication not log
Continuous load and query, hybrid storage architecture Scales Out on
commodity hardware,

Sample RDF Graph

Optimized use of database tables -> table per property, avoids nulls,
but need joins (though they are linear merge joins) {getting late...}
