What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

It is a tool, all be it a better one than those that have come thus far.

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

I'm actively learning the R statistical programming language.

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

If it allows people to navigate information more intuitively, they won't care what it's called.

Introduction

Background in AI and algorithm development for distributed sensors and decisions, now risk management for manufacturing (which surprisingly has many similarities). I have a number of friends actively using and working in the Semantic Web industry.
