What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

I believe it will be at least part of the next big thing. It may be that a few of its best features persist into another technology that takes the best and leaves the rest.

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

I know most of these; my main interest at this point is in SPARQL.

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

I believe the first public impact of the technology will be on applications that simultaneously reduce the noise of information overload, in targeted data areas, and provide people with more effective data for their tasks.

Introduction

I want to learn more about real world uses of semantic web technologies, and I want to network with DC's web development community.

What Rafael A. is saying about this Meetup Group

(1) It's a great group -- very interested, interesting, and bright people, and (2) the more the merrier.
