And now for an important update...

Getting there:

The Au Business Club is located at: 833 108th AVE NE Suite 200, Bellevue, WA.

It's on the second floor of a grey, flat building that says "Washington Square" in white letters on the side.

You'll see a white, square sign with "Au" (looks like the periodic table of elements...get it?) near the entrance. There is parking on-site (I think around 25 spaces) but also street parking is available as well. Doors open at 2pm, table set-up starts at 1pm.

SENSE cordially invites you to our first ever small business bazaar/networking open house ('whew'!)

Apparently someone, somewhere created a holiday, "Wave Your Fingers at Your Neighbors!" and we think it's a fine way for indie business owners to take a break from the winter blahs and get out to meet each other!

So, on Saturday, February 9th, from 2pm-5pm at Au Business Club in Bellevue we'll have food, drink, and inspiration in spades. Come meet your neighbors in business and celebrate freedom of entrepreneurship!

The Bazaar: Small business owners will have tables set up to showcase their awesome indie businesses. Great for gift ideas, or just because!

Networking Open House: Drop in anytime from 2-5pm. We welcome all business folks of all flavors...whether you just have an idea brewing, or have run several companies over the years. No matter your experience, there's always something new to learn and share.

Party: Even though we often work alone, we do have a community. And even though we often work ourselves into a stupor, we do know how to have fun. So bring a bottle of wine to share and come relax with people who get what you do and why you do it.

Donations are always welcome! There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door to help cover costs. All donations will go towards future SENSE events.

The goal of the Solopreneur Education Network of Seattle and the Eastside (SENSE) is to reduce the learning curve that so many of us face when working alone. It doesn’t matter if you work from home, run your own business, make extra income online or off, are in a Network Marketing company, or just have an idea to break you out of the 9-5 routine. All who are interested in sharing their business knowledge are welcome!

Our topics are only limited by what you want to discuss. Suggestions include:

Since running this Meetup takes time, effort, and yes, money, (Did you know that organizers pay dues? And venues cost money? Crazy!) there are nominal charges for certain events. Others will be by donation. All money collected will go back to the group to defray speaker fees, venue rental, refreshments, and administrative costs. (Don't forget: all costs are tax deductible as a business expense.) Our ultimate goal is to create a supportive environment for your business to grow and prosper…and we request that our members appreciate our efforts by making a small contribution.

Ongoing events include:

"Figure it out Friday": come hang out at various venues across Seattle and the Eastside and bring a project that you’re stuck on. Could be a web-bug, setting up your fan page, writing a press release, or just getting feedback on a project. Don’t worry, we’ll figure it out together!
Play Cashflow: Developed by Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad/Poor Dad) this game teaches you how to think outside the "rat race" by showing you how to manage finances and take advantage of investment opportunities as they come up. It’s a fun way to get your financial learn on!
Business Book Club: Charlie "Tremendous" Jones once said: “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Time to meet some people, and read some books, doncha think? Let’s tackle some old standards and new classics to expand our knowledgebase.
Networking Events: Come on out and meet other indie business owners in a relaxed atmosphere. No pitching, no selling, no formal speaker, just a casual way to meet people who share your same interests.
Featured Speakers: Specific topics geared towards YOUR interests as a solopreneur and indie business owner. Want to suggest a topic? Interested in speaking? Great! Contact Hillary or Bethany for how to get started.

Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome! You can help by:

Recommending this group and our events to all your solopreneur and indie business friends!
Suggesting good speakers with relevant topics
Finding cost-effective venues for events: quiet spaces with wi-fi and digital projectors, or more casual venues (like restaurants) for happy hours and social get-togethers. Independently owned venues are preferred to chains. (ie: Starbucks has enough market share…let’s support our indie-business neighbors, ok?)
Suggesting community events that appeal to our members (talks through Town Hall, other Meetup events, community classes geared towards developing your business skills, etc)
Finding sponsors for the group to help defray costs
Being an Event Host, (moderate if needed, take photos, set up/tear down, collect donations, seat latecomers, etc)
Monitoring the message board
Posting events through your own social network, website/blog, or community (if appropriate, of course)
…And?

All we ask of any member is that you are interested, engaged, and involved. Remember that this is not a dating Meetup, so don’t be creepy. Treat others as you wish to be treated. Don’t spam or oversell members. Respect other’s ideas, insights, and confidences. Show up if you RSVP "Yes." Come with an open mind, open heart, and aim to give…not just get.
