Welcome to the Senior Care Family Support and Resource Group and know that you are not alone in this!
The Purpose of our community group is to provide an open forum where caregivers can freely discuss their concerns and experiences of being a caregiver in a safe, confidential environment. Our group will also support caregivers who are navigating through the trials and tribulations of caring for a loved one and to share resources to better improve the quality of these life circumstances for the infirmed and caregiver alike. We welcome new caregivers as well as those who are veterans.
Some of the topics our group will cover include:
Stress management:
Stress management is a highly requested topic in this arena and we will be offering several meditative techniques that can greatly mitigate the often experienced anxiety, guilt and sorrow that creates this stress.
Alzheimer's, Dementia and other memory loss disorders:
The National Institute on Aging recently estimates, as many as 2.4 million to 5.1 million Americans have AD.The number of people age 65 and older is expected to grow from 39 million in 2008 to 72 million in 2030, and the number of people with AD doubles for every 5-year interval beyond age 65. Our members are encouraged to share their experiences and the tips and techniques they have uncovered to make caring for a dementia stricken family member less taxing.
Government Benefits and Funding for Care:
Few people know that the State of Florida recently revised several programs to include more applicants and are awarding more funds. Some of these programs include the Medicaid Waiver, VA benefits and the Diversion (Assisted Living) Program. Information and guest speakers on this will be available throughout our meetups.
Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Nursing Home Care:
Guest Speakers and Educators:
We will also periodically have guest speakers who share and educate us within their field of expertise. Doctors, Holistic Healers, Social Workers, VA and Medicaid Waiver Benefit Specialists, Elder Law attorneys, and Disability Specialist are just a few of the several speakers that are available to us.
