Let's DO a new IoT/electronics project for this year

The first version of the Open Thermostat shield for Arduino is ready!!! This shield contains loads of functions, like temperature sensing, heater control, (optional) LCD display, push buttons, wireless sensor interface, etc.

Software has not yet been written, so if you are interested in writing Arduino software for it, please come join in.

This meetup, I want to tell a bit more about the shield, I will share how I do the designs and I will have 8 PCBs available on a first come, first serve base (for a small fee).

After the presentation, there is of course room for questions, sw programming and general talking and drinking.

All the best,

Hans

    Some info regarding OpenTherm.

There actually is a basic version of an Arduino OpenTherm shield available. More info on the blog from Robert Hekkers http://blog.hekkers.net/2012/02/19/arduino-opentherm-monitor-shield/
    with some pictures here http://picasaweb.google.com/freddy.martens/arduino

Some more usefull info on jeelabs http://jeelabs.org/2012/11/18/tackling-opentherm/

All this bases on the work done by palebluedot/Martijn http://www.palebluedot.nl/jml/projects/arduino/24-openthermmon.html

And the old specs for OpenTherm 2.2 are available here http://blog.hekkers.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/OT-Protocol-Specification-v2-2.pdf

Since they are all from the Netherlands we could contact them and ask if they want to visit one of the meetups and present their solutions?

Very interesting. We definitely need to get them to our meetup...

I mentioned some simulators that I have found on the net and that could provide for a quick platform for the software guys. I haven't had the time to try them:

I wouldn't be surprised if there are more...

The simulators (including simuino) don't seem really complete. Simulator for Arduino (http://www.virtronics...) seems the most complete, yet it's still pretty far from a fully functioning Arduino.

Thus my suggestion would be to just get a real Arduino or Arduino compatible board to start coding on. It'll end up being a lot easier to get something to work :)

True. Nothing beets having the real thing. I though that simulation (if complete and working) would allow for fancy things such as ease of debugging.

I am sorry guys, I have a cold and I am not feeling that well. Have fun

I'll be a bit late, sorry for that, but I look forward to see what's going and how far have thing progressed since I went on hollidays.

Hans, I will definitely program one of them

Is there communication built into the shields?

I would also like to do a 5 min update on a subject we discussed in the last meet up - low cost IOT communications.

I am also very interested in learning programming Arduino with this project. Looking forward to hearing about the requirements.

Will definitily share where we are right now and how everybody can get involved. The shield itself can communicate with wireless sensors, Internet connectivity is provided by the Arduino board or a separate shield.

    Hi guys,
I just got the news about this meetup yesterday and can not make it. But would love to connect with you guys and join future ones.

We are building a documentation and scale platform for open hardware with social impact behind, would be interesting to get your feedback as we are in testing stage www.dreamups.org Thank you. Talk soon

Hi. I just uploaded a file to share on the latest overview (from GigaOm) of the IoT market landscape. Good overview of developments, impediments, and the future of IoT.
Let's start a dialogue before the meetup.
    Cheers.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
