Internet-of-Things, Arduino and talks

  • February 19, 2014 · 5:00 PM
  • Glimworm HQ

We talk and do Internet-of-Things, Arduino, RaspPi and more. Ranging from projects (Air Quality Egg, Open Thermostat), presentations, events and just getting together to talk. Everybody is welcome: Technical, non-technical or just interested.

After the hugely successful and fun Air Quality Egg project, we are working this year on a new project: The Open Thermostat project. Goal is to design a home thermostat that has loads of possibilities for customization, you can program your self and is based on the Arduino electronics platform.

If you like to know more, be involved or are just curious: Just come to one of our meetups... every third Wednesday of the Month at Glimworm's HQ in Amsterdam (across the road from the Rijksmuseum, thanks Jonathan!).

In addition, we want to bring in speakers for each event, who can share their thoughts, experiences and/or wisdom. So if you know someone, let us know.

Format change

This meet up will be the first to start early so the schedule will be :

5:00 - walk in and "solder"

6:30 - Pizza

7:00 - Start of regular meet up format, presentations, discussions etc..

This meetup - 7:30 - Henk Smeenk and the SODAQ

During thus meetup we have a guest speaker Henk Smeenk who will give us a talk on Solar powered data acquisition.

Henk is an IoT veteran and has a bunch of devices deployed all over the african continent collecting data in areas which are hard to reach electronically.

One of his devices (the SODAQ) was on kick starter last year and when I look at it I think it is very interesting for our group.  Henk is also creating hardware modules that link into the new low power network I talked about before "SigFox"  for sale in the netherlands.

Looking forward to the meeting. Will we start early this time (17:00) to do some work on the OpenThermostat board as well? and then have some pizza or something?

    February 14, 2014

    • Hans C.

Agreed, let's see if we can organise this

Hey all, got confirmation from my friend at Remeha that all the kettles still are able to run on shorting the OpenTherm wires. The effect will be that the kettle will heat up till the set temperature. Not the most efficient way of heating so not in active use anymore, but it will still work.

So we can start trying out our proof of concept!

Great, maybe we can try out next time

Open thermostat files are ready to download: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:231783

you can print them at your local fablab or 3Dhubs will do the trick.

Perhaps a bit too bloated but still this protocol seems promising for IoT: http://portals.omg.org/dds/
