Optimize Your Wordpress Installation

Hey Everyone,

I'm pleased to announce September's SEO Grail Meetup!

Wordpress has rapidly become the go-to CMS for many small businesses, bloggers and others on the interwebs, but few people understand enough about it to optimize it's performance. This month, SEO Meetup Member Zach Russell is going to give us the lowdown on Wordpress optimization. Just a few things you'll learn include:

  • How to Speed Up Wordpress
  • How to Optimize Your Database
  • Choosing the Right Host
  • Browser Caching
  • Lossless Image Compression
  • Database Security
  • Wordpress Hacks
  • What to Do If Your Site is Hacked

This is sure to be an information-rich Meetups so you shouldn't miss it.

In addition, you'll want to come out to say goodbye to one of our long-time members. No, Ian Howells isn't dying but he's moving to North Caroline (which some might say that there's no difference ;) ). Regardless, come out to send Ian off in style.

Thanks & I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

From the looks of things you need some help across a few different competencies, and knowing who you need to look for and what specific capabilities they should possess is half the battle. From a quick look at your site I would guess you need an experienced PHP developer, a technical SEO (or SEO Engineer), and an SEO for on-page/off-page stuff.

If you already have the developer that's a big bonus, and you should then focus on someone with some technical SEO chops; ideally someone who understands canonicalization, url architecture, and server administration for SEO. So I would start with SEO Engineer or Technical SEO as the title of the person you are looking for, furthermore make sure you have someone who understands the underlying optimization issues on your website write the job description - this will help to pre-qualify your respondents and ultimately save you a lot of headaches during the interview process.

Hey Alex - Great to have you in the group. Just a tip IMHO, if you're looking for 'gurus' you are probably better off not using that term... the smartest people I know despise that term and the large ego's that tend to come with it. Cheers!
