Digital Art Talk Series : Mapping

Digital Art Talk Series : Mapping

Thursday, August 1st 2013 @WCO Seoul

Remember 'Artist as cartographer' mentioned in last session? Whether it's conceptual or technical, maps can be found in the context of many digital art projects, and we will be looking into some of them in this talk.

World Culture Open Seoul generously offered us their amazing office right by Ankuk station, Exit 1.

Hope to see many old & new faces!

Schedule

7:00pm- 8:00pm Digital Art Talk Series : Mapping

8:00pm- 8:15pm Discussion

hey guys, here's another mapping project that I thought was interesting. This artist is compiling a map of manhattan using hand drawn maps from strangers. I thought that this move away from data sets and the digital world, would be interesting to share in that it shows us that mapping can be something as simple as asking people for directions.

    hope you enjoy!

    Hello all!

I ran into this project while searching the annals of the internet. Thought it might be of interest with the theme of last week's talk. It's a series of maps visualized from data recently made public by the city of new york. http://andrewxhill.github.io/cartodb-examples/scroll-story/pluto/#0

The balloon mapping that I mentioned was by the group called Public Lab. http://publiclab.org/

They are kinda all over the place now, and I think there are some people who are involved in ballon mapping here in Korea as well. If I find ones I will post it here.

    Mapping: This is great tool.
And I love 'MAPPING' with community.

Mapping is good tool to solve the urban issues also.
Why do not you solve the social issues with the technology like mapping? Any ideas? Please share with us. http://sicampseoul.com/

Thanks to STS organizers! I had great time!
And thanks to Lucia. It is really helpful!!
Please share the DIY ballon project to check the pollution in the air. As I mentioned, my interest is social innovation field.
For example, like how can we solve the social issues with technology, art and heartwarming! So, I am interested in community mapping.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ushahidi)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
