Tackling the city as a painting subject is a great challenge and lots of fun. The visuals in Seoul are so complex as new and old architecture cram together and fight for space that it can seem quite daunting to try and capture it with anything other than a camera.

In this one day workshop you'll learn about plein air painting (painting outdoors) and hopefully gain a new appreciation for the urban landscape.

Part one:
In the studio you'll be introduced to how to handle watercolor paints. This includes paper preparation, color mixing and brush techniques.

Part two:
In the studio, a demo on how to choose a subject and set up an image. Composition, proportion and artistic editing will all be covered.

Part three:
Outside on the streets, participants will first watch a quick demo about starting a painting and then will go off and find a spot nearby (within a block of) the studio and work on their own paintings.

You'll be given an easel, chair and painting materials included watercolors, palettes, paper and pens (if you want to finish off your paintings in an illustrative way like Mike Stewart does).

The instructor will move around and visit each participant regularly as they work, providing tips and advice. This is similar to an "urban sketchers" meetup, but with full instruction and materials provided.

From Itaewon Station (line #6 in Seoul) Come out exit 3 and make a U-turn.
Turn left at Olive Young Walk straight past Taco Bell for about 10 minutes. Turn left after Tous les Jours Bakery.
There is a supermarket on the corner (한가람마트) and Jankura Artspace is on the 4th floor of this building. There is Hilltop Dental and a doctor's offices on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
