The 10 Magazine Book Club: Charles Montgomery 'Korean Modern Lit'

  • March 31, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • TOZ

Please join the 10 Magazine Book Club for our March meeting on Sunday 31st. We will be joined by very special guest Charles Montgomery.

Charles Montgomery is the writer and editor of the excellent 'Korean Modern Literature in Tranlsation' blog ( and a regular guest on Arirang Radio's 'Catch the Wave' where he does a section called 'Open the Book' at around 7pm Sunday night.  He is also an associate professor in the English Literature, Interpretation and Translation Department at Dongguk University in Seoul.

Charles has kindly agreed to attend the book club to discuss and introduce Korean Modern Literature.  He is going to put together a book of about 5 short stories (available online in PDF) that roughly outline the history of Korean modern literature.  Then we can discuss the stories and have a Question and Answer session with Charles.

I highly recommend you visit his blog.  It provides a fascinating and revealing insight into modern Korean literature with lots of excellent articles and features.  I can't recommend it highly enough.  I think this is going to be a wonderful meeting and anyone with even a passing interest in Korean literature should definitely attend.

The short stories will be available in February.  Please send me an email ([masked]) or a Facebook message in February and I will send them to you.

I hope you can all make it. I really look forward to seeing you there. I think it’s going to be a fantastic meeting.

우리 모두가 참여하기를 바랍니다. 그곳에서 모두를 뵙기를 기대하겠습니다. 아주 멋진 모임이 될 것입니다.

Free tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will be provided.

무료로 차와 커피, 음료수와 과자가 준비되어 있습니다.

Also, I should have some copies of 10 Magazine to give away.

또한 여러분을 위해 10 Magazine의 복사본이 있습니다.

We have also started a book swap and exchange.  So please feel free to bring any books you want to swap with other book club members.

All the best

안녕히 계세요.

Barry Welsh

It made me very happy to meet a foreign person who took up the time and effort to really delve into Korean literature and history seriously. Anyone making even the slightest effort to learn more about Korean literature and history warms my heart. Thanks Charles for the splendid presentation.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
