Please note the location and slight time change, as we accommodate the great interest in this meetup!
To kick off the first meeting of The Drafthouse, we're getting together to buddy up and help each other take an extensive list of our measurements. If you've ever tried to do your own measurements by yourself (and we all have), you've seen that the accuracy can leave much to be desired. And we all know that our significant others may try their hardest, but a fellow sewist knows just how and where to measure the right way. :-)
Precise measurements take time, and remember that after yours are done, you'll be taking those of your buddy. So, we estimate that this session will take about 3 hours. Please plan to be on time for this one and to stay for the entire session (unless you and your buddy are finished early, of course!). More details below:
- Wear, or bring to change into, close-fitting clothing in order to enable the most accurate measurements. Stretch pants and a camisole or tank top are ideal.
- Bring both a flexible tape measure and a ruler, marked in some way so you'll know which one is yours. There will be lots of these floating around. :-)
- If possible, wear or bring a short necklace that fits you well -- this can be very beneficial in determining several neckline / high shoulder point measurements. If you don't have something fitting this description, no worries, it can still be done.
- There are a few other tools we'll use that we will have there for everyone, but these are included in the cost of this meeting.
We all know how valuable a good set of these numbers can be in the sewing process. As part of The Drafthouse, we plan to create our blocks -- but even if you have no interest in that, measurements are critical in choosing your pattern size, making alterations, and custom fitting your garments just for you. Come join us to get this data added to your arsenal! I promise that there will be NO PHOTOS taken during this get-together! ;-)
