I sewed my first dress in high school and wore it to my graduation. I've always used patterns with some success, but they've never been perfect! I've never learned how to fit properly. But I have made many garments over the years, including my wedding dress and the outfits for all of my attendants (we wore Lord of the Rings costumes) … so while they weren't perfect, they turned out quite well! I've made mostly dresses and blouses and some men's shirts. I'd like to get the courage to make pants and to work with knits, which I've never done.
I have a Pfaff that's about 15 years old. It's a basic machine, but it's been a trooper!
It depends on the type of mistake. If it's something that occurred because I wasn't paying attention, I'll just take out the stitches and do it again. But if it's a mistake that occurred because I didn't understand the instructions, then I'll go back and read and reread to find out why I did it wrong. Sometimes the instructions aren't all that clear, so when I figure it out, I'll make a note. I do get frustrated sometimes, because I don't usually have anyone to ask for help … at the moment, I don't know anyone else who sews!
I made a Renaissance gown for my sister-in-law that I'm very proud of. I'll have to look for a picture of it, but I'd be happy to share it!
Oooh, a fancy costume . . . I love costumes! Perhaps a Jane Austen dress or something from the Victorian era.
Hello! I learned sewing on my own, and I have always wanted to get better at it. I've often wished for a "sewing buddy," but I think that this group would be even better!
