I love clothes that fit! I started sewing so I could make versions of what I saw in the stores that actually fit and flattered my figure. Years later, I'm still into the fashion but love the process too.
I'm self-taught really. Started sewing by picking up a simple pattern and following the directions. I sew mainly clothes for myself but have made some costumes for the theatre, the ballet and ballroom dancing. Occasionally I will throw my hubby a bone and make something for him:)
I have a Singer sewing machine - can't remember the model right now - a Bernina and a White 4 thread serger.
It depends. If it can't be fixed by moving the seam then I usually try to incorporate the mistake into the design making it look intentional.
A cool raincoat that was more a labour of love than anything else. Pictures are on The Common Thread website (the store I got the fabric from)
A wedding dress for a vow renewal ceremony.
Hi Susan! I hope I'm not in over my head Lol! Reading some of the bios are intimidating and exciting at the same time. I have a passion for sewing and felt incomplete when I stepped away from it. I pray that meeting you ladies will encourage me to jump right on in. I know I have a lot to learn about sewing, but I'm more than willing to take advice and constructive criticism. Can't wait to meet you all.
Same here! I'm looking forward to it :-)
So glad to have met you Sunday! I'm going to sign up for the upcoming Drafthouse in May, though my work schedule might mean I have to work late that day. Fingers crossed that's not the case!!
A further question: In the description of this group of classes, the last line says, "You can jump in at any time." Is that true, or are the classes limited to the first 12 with the wait list? Thanks again!
Susan, I'm very interested in getting good, accurate measurement made and going forward to develop a sloper. If you get another group together for that purpose, please include me on your list! Thanks!
Hello. I'm sending this note to all who attended last night's meetup. Please respond! Thanks! Hi there, Sewers! I'm in the market for a new sewing machine. My 21-year old Kenmore finally died. I was thinking this may be the last machine I purchase, and wanted a very good one. Bernina has always held particular appeal for me, but not their price. Any suggestions from anyone about a machine for my future? I like garment sewing, mending, quilting, embroidery for capabilities. What would you buy???
hi susan, thanks for the ride! i never could have carried all that stuff over on foot! i had a great time! such a wonderful group of people. i had a thought about the scarves: even though we chose specific ones for our absent friends, maybe they'd like to go thru and look at what's left and choose for themselves if they're not wild about our choices... also, why not just keep the finished scarves that are left after that for presenting to new members as they join us? just an idea... best, cat
Hi Susan dear.... booked for the meeting, and skirt is with Jeannie even now... saw the wonderful two entries already there and felt like a country cousin... what to do? love my refugee sheikh style anyway... Shall be lovely to see you dear.
It actually wasn't too bad! I got it down, combed through it & then went swimming! LOL then washed & used LOTS of conditioner later! Looking fwd to sewing w/ya! I've been working on a chiffon petticoat for my daughter ALL day! Finally figured out my ruffler foot & just stopped cussing! It should eventually turn out nice!
