Good morning, Austin Seamsters! Announcing a new Meetup for Sewing with Style!

What: Denim Doctors

When: Thursday, June 17,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $7.00 per person

Where:
The Common Thread
701-E South Lamar Blvd
Austin, TX 78704
(512)[masked]

One of our newest members, Margaret Chandler, will lead this meetup. The specific mending and alterations featured at this meetup are limited to:
1. Patching
2. Skinnifying (I'm not the only one who has unworn wide-leg jeans, am I?)
3. Hemming

We will bring samples of altered denim and demonstrate of some of the techniques. You don't have to sew, but if you want to bring your own jeans to alter in one of the ways described above, we should have enough time for you to work on one project. Please come prepared with:

  • Your sewing machine - please be comfortable operating your machine completely, as we won't be teaching any sewing during this meetup
  • Your fabric scissors - good idea to label them
  • Your tape measure
  • Matching thread for your jeans, though there's a chance you can purchase on-site the exact thread you need
  • A denim or other heavy-duty needle (size 14-16)
  • Your seam ripper

And, since we'll be meeting up during dinner hour, we are charging a bit more for this meetup so we can take care of purchasing food for all to enjoy -- prob. along the lines of fresh fruit and veggies, crackers - cheese - hummus, water, and something sweet for dessert. :)
