Sewing With Style celebrated its one-year "re-boot" birthday on August 9! It's been tons of fun being your meetup organizer and I'm so glad to have met many of you. Your meetup leaders met about a month ago to brainstorm ideas and directions for this next year, and one of their suggestions was to publish a "newsletter" - so I will try to send it out once a month and post it on our meetup's home page.
First off, THANKS to everyone who's hosted and led meetups this last year, including Susan Menta, Andy Nguyen, Kristin Jones, Joanne Heard, Carlota Garcia, Roseana Auten, Anslee Connell, Etienne Lepine, Karel Riley, and Margaret Chandler. We are so fortunate to have such willing and able leaders! THANKS also to Jeanie Brown, proprietress of local indie fabric shop The Common Thread, for welcoming our meetups in her shop from (almost literally) day one. And THANKS to all of you for coming out to meetups, suggesting ideas, cheering each other on, and just being a great community. I'm very thankful you let me be part of this!
Secondly, there are two meetups already scheduled in September. Next one up is the monthly Project and Pattern Review
, hosted by Kristin, on Tuesday, September 7. Soon after, we are trying our first-ever weekday meetup, a Mending and Alterations meetup
, on Friday, September 10. This is a highly unstructured, very social, hopefully super-productive, free meetup. Dawn suggested this meetup through our IDEAS and it was such a popular idea we worked it into the schedule.
Third, your meetup leaders suggested giving more insight to all members into meetups "in development". In the works for the next 3 months are meetups featuring sergers, charitable sewing for Dress for Success and Dresses for Haiti, and another fabric/ pattern swap.
Finally, if you have any IDEAS you'd like to suggest, there is a great tool here on the meetup site for that
. You can also view existing ideas and vote for them here
. When someone suggests a new idea through this tool, we look for at least 10 people to support the idea before we prioritize it -- unless another meetup member sends me a message that he or she is ready to lead that meetup.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Our first year has been wonderful and I look forward to the next!
