Documentary filmmaker Mika Mattila's

second feature explores China's changing face through two figures: Liu Gang, a young photographer on the rise, and Wang Guangyi, a cantankerous painter and millionaire who rails against Western influence and questions his own accomplishments.

Fascinating and compelling in its best moments, but takes too long to make its point. To his credit, the filmmaker goes unusually deep into the subjects' lives and heads, and he treats the subjects with the artistry they deserve. But that very well could be what makes it meander.
