24-hour reply rule and state of the club...

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good President's Day even with the nasty weather out there. I just need to let you know about the 24-hour rule and let you know what the direction the club is taking.

(1) 24-hour reply rule

If you sign up for an event, I require members to check their e-mail once every 24 hours. I sometimes send important information and updates about events. I always send out a logistics/details e-mail 24 hours before the event.

Even more important: within 2 or 3 days of the actual event, I send a confirmation e-mail that requires a reply within 24 hours of it being sent. It will often contain several questions that need to be answered. If you do not reply within 24 hours, your RSVP may be dropped without question! If a waiting list exists, then waiting people will get your spots.

(2) Call, communicate, be considerate.

On many events, there are people who no-show and come very late to an event. An example: some felt that it's no big deal to miss the dinner portion of a dinner/karaoke event. However, I need to communicate with the dining establishment how many people to staff for and how many tables to set up. Unfortunately, about one-third of the people didn't show up for dinner after confirming. This reflects poorly on me.

If you're going to be very late or can't come to an event last minute, please call. I always leave my phone number on the logistics e-mail. I'll leave it here too: (415) 205-6799. I ask for your cell numbers because I would like to be able to communicate with you, for example if you're 20 minutes late to an event, I may make a welfare check.

(3) Scheduling

People will notice I have had an event once every week for the past month or so. This will slow down considerably after the bowling event. With my impending professional exam, I will probably schedule an event once every 3 weeks or so if I'm lucky. After the middle of May, things should pick up again.

(4) What is the club's identity?

If people didn't notice by now, this is technically a singles Meetup. That doesn't mean you can't stay if you're involved, but just be aware of this. There will be a number of events in the future planned out for more intimate settings limited from 6 to 12 people - details forthcoming.

(5) Facebook!

(5b) If you're on Facebook, join my Facebook group "Under 40 BAAAG". Look at my profile under Info and then Groups and then Member of:. You can't RSVP on it, but at least people of Facebook know you're a part of the club.
