Introducing MaxScale, the new proxy for MySQL/MariaDB

Overview:

Introducing MaxScale, the new proxy for MySQL/MariaDB

MaxScale is a lightweight, modular proxy that provides new features for MySQL, such as database-specific load balancing, monitoring, connection and statement based routing. MaxScale is the missing piece in the MySQL ecosystem to provide NoSQL features with MySQL consistency, availability and robustness.

MaxScale is fully open source, licensed GPL v2 and available here: https://github.com/skysql/MaxScale

From the talk, MaxScale is a powerful SQL protocol routing engine. It seemed that the routing core could take multiple actions based information in the SQL request or reply. The different actions talk to the routing core via a well defined API. The cluster selector discussed tonight is just the first. An obvious plug-in would be a SQL protocol analyzer like wireshark. A caution is that since it holds the clients and the servers credentials it would be a great place for a man in the middle attacks against your SQL database.
