Terry Chay will be returning to speak again! Due to popular demand Terry has agreed to give his recent "
Making frameworks suck less" talk that he gave to the
ZendCon08 UnCon this year. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes 'cause Terry will pack the room! The blurb from ZendCon08: Terry Chay, the original PHP Terrorist, is well known for his criticism and ridicule of the Ruby on Rails framework. He criticizes, mocks, and f-bombs his enemies into surrender. In this discussion, Terry will share his ideas and thoughts on making frameworks better. Thank you to

Did Terry's presentation ever make it to video? I was unable to make it to the meetup and I really want to see it.

Speaker was good, but a lot of his info about non-php was outdated or wrong.

Great PHP meetup once again. Terry's talk was great, even for those of us that don't code.

I am now interested in Xdebug since it is free. I thought Netbeans was a database so now I know. Mariano thanks for your explanation of the difference Zend framework and Zend platform and your drawings. Maybe the caching and performance tuning of Zend platform should be discussed some time?
I have a question being new to frameworks. If you did use Zend for an "enterprise" app should you also use Smarty or would you just use one or the other? CAn you just use your own template system or is that reinventing the wheel. Are there limitations to using Smarty like there are for platforms.
thanks for an informative meeting,

The meeting format is great. The main speaker seemed convinced that the concept of "the more complex your problem, the harder it is to solve" and the corollaries arising from the same. I admit that may just be a personal reaction, but my thought was 'if this is what he considered deep understanding, his company needs better architects'.
Don't change the meeting though -- you can't make all of us happy all the time.

The pizza hit the spot. I needed food.
The first presenter needed to learn how to use the microphone so we could hear him. I think he was soft spoken to begin with and that didn't help his cause.
Terry presented well. I enjoyed his structured, casual approach to a presentation. I learned a bit about frameworks from him. It was cool that I'd had exposure to Symfony prior to the presentation though so I knew what a framework was already. This made it all make sense.
I also liked that there was a moment for people to make their own announcements. I was just laid off yesterday and two of the job opportunities as a PHP developer applied to me.
