Having postponed our event on mobile-web, we are super-excited to welcome Will Shulman, from MongoLab, who generously offered to fill our August 31st slot and show us how to persist our mobile app data in the cloud using a super-scalable and amazingly developer-friendly MongoDB back-end. Build your next mobile back-end with MongoDB! MongoDB is one of the fastest growing NoSQL databases and an excellent alternative to MySQL as a server-side backing store for mobile applications. MongoDB's JSON-style storage model and mobile-friendly features (like built-in geo-spatial indexing / search) make it a great tool for mobile developers and a great topic for our Android group. Will Shulman, CEO and co-founder of MongoLab will introduce the group to MongoDB, discuss its applicability to mobile apps, and show us how to use MongoLab's cloud-based data service to make off-device data storage a snap. Pizzas/drinks will be sponsored by Imtiaz Hussain from [x]Cube Labs. As before, we'll be giving away books and other swag to the lucky winners. About William Shulman: Will Shulman is a technologist and entrepreneur with over 13 years of experience building software platforms and products, and has played various executive roles at small and medium sized software companies. Currently he is CEO and co-founder of MongoLab, an exciting new cloud MongoDB provider. Prior to MongoLab Will was the CTO and co-founder of Merced Systems, a growing and profitable enterprise software company with over 500,000 end-users worldwide. Will holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, where he did undergraduate research in automated theorem proving, distributed database systems, and early semantic-web technologies. Will is also a contributer to the MongoDB Java driver codebase.

This event is organized by Marakana, which happens to offer MongoDB training courses in partnership with 10gen, the creators of MongoDB.

Yes, but it will probably take a couple of weeks before the video is edited and uploaded to YouTube. I'll send out an announcement to the group when it becomes available.

It was very interesting to learn about MongoDB, and how mobile app developers could easily tap into this amazing data persistance technology via MongoLab's super-simple REST API. I found Will to be a very engaging presenter.

A good presentation and a knowledgeable presenter.

However, a bit of a sales pitch.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
