Snowshoeing Through Tunnels & Sheds w/ Potluck Overlooking Donner Lake

OK Guys, Let's hope for some snow!

This was shot at the entrance to the first tunnel.

Not sure the scenery gets much better than what you'll take in on this hike!

Never snowshoed before?  Then you definitely don't want to miss this one.

The tunnels are frozen inside w/ beautiful ice formations like you haven't seen before.  Some tunnels are lit w/ shafts of light, while others are lit only by our headlamps and flashlights.  The floors of the tunnels are like icefields which make this one exciting hike!  The views outside the tunnels are just incredible.  You'll see the mighty Sierras and eventually Donner Lake, where we'll have lunch.

This is our view at lunch.

This is not your typical hike, nor are the views at all typical.  I can assure you this will be an amazing adventure you will never forget.

The hike is about 6 miles and is flat  -  I'll call it moderate because we're in snowshoes on both snow and ice.  This will be an all day trip, and you'll be hungry from burning calories all day so For those who want to, we'll have dinner in Old Town Auburn.

You can reserve your snowshoes w/ poles at any REI  for $27 to pick up the day before (Friday).  Equipment is due back in at REI on Monday - perfect deal.  I don't use poles, though most people like them.

What To Bring:

Vino! and cups

Ski gloves

Waterproof Boots - (I wear my hiking boots)

Daypack with snacks, food (lunch) and vino w/ cups!

Warm layered clothes &  plastic tarp or blanket to sit on at lunch

Head warmer (hat, knit hat, hood, etc.)

Headlamp or flashlight

Water at least 1 liter

Camera - You'll have many, many, unique pictures to show your friends

Sense of Adventure and Merriment!

$5 activity fee

Cash for gas and parking - aprox $15/person for gas

Everyone coming from The Bay Area will meet at Round Table Pizza in Vacaville at 7:00am.

888 Alamo Dr, Vacaville

Exit I 80 at Alamo/Merchant - as the ramp splits continue straight and you'll go up and over the hwy.  Getting into the left lane (before coming down the other side) you'll turn left on Merchant (as if you were getting back on I 80 heading west), you'll immediately see Round Table on your right.  Turn into the parking lot and we'll meet there.

I've received questions about whether or not this trip is happening because some of the sites have very few signups. There are currently 70+ people signed up, so no worries. If you check my vino grp I've posted a weather update. See you Sat.
